Homemade Mac & Cheese

  1. Anyone have a recipe for homemade mac & cheese? I have to make it for about 15 people for Thanksgiving. I am looking for a stick to your lungs kind of mac and cheese not the Kraft kind. My great aunt used to make some that was pretty stiff.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I don't have the recipe, but I had a friend who made her's with nothing but elbows and three different kinds of shredded cheese- I remember mozzarella and cheddar, and am thinking the third was either fontina or gruyere.

I don't use a recipe. I use a box of noodles, milk, an egg, a good bit of salt and pepper and at least a pound of cheese, preferably sharp cheddar. Regardless of the recipe you use, sharp cheddar tastes the best!

Found a recipe in my Mennonite cookbook:
    Easy Macaroni and Cheese
    3 T butter
    2 1/2c uncooked macaroni
    1 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp pepper
    1/2 lb cheese
    1 qt milk
Melt butter in baking dish, add other ingredients after you've mixed them. Bake, uncovered at 350 for 1 1/2 hrs. DO NOT STIR.
