hobbies, non-nursing pass times?

  1. Has this been discussed before? I like hearing what others do to keep themselves out of trouble when not working or tending to family.

Me, I'm an obsessive quilter. I've hand quilted well over one hundred quilts and am still going strong. I've done crafts all my life and discovered quilting when my 17 yr old was a baby, and I haven't looked back since.

    A few of my quilts:

100% handquilted. Most of my quilts are machine pieced to put the tops together, but the double wedding ring quilt, the white one with a close up, was hand pieced as well.

The tulip quilt, one of my all time favourites, was the first quilt I appliqued and that is hand done.

Crocheting and cross-stitching, although having a toddler has seriously curtailed these activities. I crochet baby afghans for my pregnant friends, I'm working on one now for a doc I work with; his wife is due in April. I'm afraid to try stitching again until Demon Child is older, I don't want her to find the needle. I also like to read.

My favorite past time is reading; followed closely by spending time in the computer.

Needle work-wise, I crochet, knit, needle-point and crewel.

I haven't been real active in my needle work lately!!

PS Clemm-those quilts are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!

ahhh, clemmm, those quilts are gorgeous! i love them all, they're so different! nice choices of complimenting patterns/colors, too. you are talented!!

i have sewn in the past (kids' costumes for programs/halloween) -- mostly adult clothing (even some tailored pieces), but these days my carpal tunnel makes my hand hurt if i attempt to, say, hem a skirt. i do most of the sewing repairs here at home, though. :d

i love to read and spend time on the computer (usually at allnurses, unless i've come up with a subject or a question to surf with).

i play simple chords/strumming on a guitar for bluegrass jams, and sing in a jazz performance class at a local community college.

i'll cook if i have the time and i'm not too tired, but i lean more toward fixing wholesome dishes rather than gourmet.

in the bk (before kids) era, i used to ride horses (english, trail and some dressage) -- even owned an appy for a couple of years.

now, may i expand the thread? what would you like to be able to do, if you had the time and money to pursue the hobby (or hobbies) of your choice? something you've always wanted to do/learn. . .

i'd like to do more backpacking. i'd love to travel. i'd like to learn to read music and play better guitar. maybe i'll think of something else . . .
