Hobbies?

  1. Ok folks. I need help. I'm bored and want to take up a new hobby but don't seem to be able to find something I like enough.

These are a couple of things I used to do:

Horseback riding lessons: I was just beginning to learn to jump and my trainer left. I couldn't find another one that I clicked with so I left. Thought about finding a new trainer again, but with the work schedule it's next to impossible to schedule the same day off every week and most trainers just aren't that flexible.

MMORPGs: Got hooked on one thanks to Zee_RN and had a blast, but had to quit because it was consuming way too much of my time and I was still in school. Thinking about going back though.

Knitting: Still do that now and then but I'd like to try something that might get me out of the house a bit.

Running: Starting to train, but still recovering from a foot injury, and don't plan to be competitive.

So folks, what do YOU all do in your spare time?

    Cyberkat -

My latest craze is dry embossing - there is a company called "Lasting Impressions for Paper" - they are online. You can make the CUTEST cards and scrapbooking pages.
I also play the flute. I would really like to get into writing though. I have travelled a bit as a missionary and have many humorous stories to tell. Working on getting by BSN and had an english teacher recently tell me I had a gift.... so maybe that is closer than I think!

First off, what's MMORPGS?? For me, first off, I work two jobs. My surgery nursing (with call) is first, then I work part time at a local radio station. Frankly I don't have much time off. When I do, I usually can't move! :chuckle
But seriously, I love to take pictures. I have an old manual everything Pentax 35mm film camera. I really like doing timed exposures of buildings, like our courthouse at night, or sunrise/sunset pictures at the lakes, that kind of thing. When in college, I took a photo class, and learned how to do my own black and white photo developing. Working in the dark room was a lot of fun. You also get a little exercise walking around the woods, city park or where ever looking for photo ops. I also made a few bucks shooting a friend's wedding. Just my 2 cents worth.

lol sorry. MMORPGs are (I hope I get this right) Massivley Multi-Player Online RolePlaying Games. Kind of like Sims online...usually a fantasy setting or sci-fi setting.

I'd forgotten about photography. Haven't picked up a camera just for the heck of it in way too long.

Music. I love listening to it but have no talent. Art either except looking. I do love to look and listen.

I don't have a lot of time, but the things I do or would like to pursue include:

    Scrapbooking
    Photography
    Scuba diving
    Piano/Guitar
    Making jewelry - beadwork
    Horseback

And any variety of other things, those are just the main ones that come to mind right off hand.

What better way to spend time than fishing? That was my favorite hobby before I became a student. Some day I will graduate and have time to fish again....

I love to go to garage sales and thrift stores, and buy interesting "junk" that has potential. I recently bought two old chandeliers, dirt cheap. I refurbished them, and did some faux finishing, hung crystals on them an covered chandelier lamp shades with pretty fabric. They both look fantastic in my house!

I've even sold some of the stuff I've made-over on eBay.

My dining room table and chairs are a bunch of seperate pieces I bought at junk shops. I added furniture appliques, painted them and reupholstered the seat of the chairs. They look great. I recently refurbished a junk-shop china cabinet as well. I find that this hobby is really fun, rewarding and saves me lots of $$ in decorating and furnishing my house.

    Whoooooot !!! Me too !

Nothing like packing a little pic-nic basket with some cheese, grapes, a bag of goldfish crakers.... grab that pole, a can of corn to bait your hook, a blanket and a good book.

Then head to a nice stream somewhere away from it all... and even if you don't catch anything but but a few z-z-z-zzzzzzz's listening to the bubbling brook and lullaby of the birds, it was time well spent !

I love photography myself.. and trail hikes, bicycling (and of COURSE my motorcycling !) ...... sketching, and learning to play new instruments and a new language or two.
