Here is my news!

  1. first, let me thank all of you who gave me advice when i was trying to figure out whether or not i should leave occupational health and go back to hospital nursing. ya'll are some of the best folks around, anywhere!
now, to share my news: i told my manager (who is also the hr manager) this morning that the hospital made me an offer i can't refuse. namely, they are doubling my pay, plus! my manager was flummoxed-she didn't see this coming. (might be cause she rarely looks my way) anyway, my last day here will be friday, october 25th. i will begin my new job orientation on nov. 4.
and what new job would that be? "float pool," working every sat/sun, and one weekday. i am to be oriented to all units except er. after the orientation is complete, i will then be an admission/discharge/iv nurse. since i like doing patient assessments, patient teaching, and iv's, i think i am going to like this pretty well. i'll let you all know how things go as i get into the job. thanks again for all the support!

well, heather, i didn't know for sure how much time i would have between jobs! so, hubby and i haven't planned anything. howsomever, i think i'll get the house cleaned up, pack a few things, and runn oft (from oh brother, where art thou?) for a few days. i don't even know which direction, except it won't be maryland, d.c., or va!

Way to go Cathy!!! Sounds really great. I was one of the ones who advised against it due to the toll it would take on your feet etc. when you already had a sit-down job. I'm glad you didn't take my advice and went for it, the money sounds so much better, and by being a float you won't need to get involved in any unit politics anywhere. CONGRATS!!!!

Cathy, life is WAY too short and the opportunities in nursing too great to stay at a job that doesn't meet your needs. Congratulations on your new position and I hope you get the bright smiles I always give the float folks when they come to bail our butts out!

    Congrats, Cathy.
I too have a new job that I started last week in the float pool. I have gone from a 65 bed to a 850 bed hospital! Certainly a challenge. Your orientation sounds excellent. Your job sounds cool with the role you have.
Hope you enjoy, sure makes going to work easier
