My husband is a volunteer firefighter/first responder. (So he does this with no pay, just that he loves helping people). His fire department has nominateed him for the Americas Most Wanted Allstars for 2007. Here is the story that is on the website.
Firefighter / Medical 1st Responder
Watson Chapel Fire Department
Pine Bluff, AR
Lieutenant Jody Jackson is a certified medical first responder of the Watson Chapel Fire Department in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Lt. Jackson is a dedicated husband and a father of two. Dedicating the past 10 years of his life to firefighting, Lt. Jackson one day responded to an emergency call on September 8, 2005 to find a family of 3 still inside a burning home. Going above the line of duty and at risk to himself, he entered the burning home and pulled the family out. Initiating resuscitative efforts, Lt. Jackson was able to save the mother and 2-year-old daughter. Lt. Jackson is also the Assistant Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts. He also coaches kindergarten basketball and referee games. Always striving to better his community, Lt. Jackson is a true hero of the Watson Chapel area, the state of Arkansas, and the United States.
What the story doesn't tell, is that he was the first one on the scene, he placed his fire suit on and was waiting on the trucks, when he noticed toys in the yard, vehicles in the garage and no one outside. A bystander told him he called it in but no one has come out. He realized the family was still inside and decided to go in instead of waiting for the mask and oxygen tanks that are kept on the fire trucks. He located the family of 3 collapsed on the bedroom floor. He got the 2 year old girl out, then the mother, others were arriving by then and he told them where to find the father. CPR had to be given to all three. Sadly the father died at the hospital. My husband doesn't boost about saving this family, he will say he got the wife and daughter out when people ask but rarely goes into big detail, I think it pains him that the father did not make it. The mother and daughter suffered from smoke inhalation and some burns but recovered from all their injuries.
If you think my husband deserves a vote please go to www.amw.com/allstar/2007
and where it says nominee type in Jackson and it will pull him up.
Thanks to everyone that votes for him. Even if you don't vote he will always be our families Americas Most Wanted Allstar, and the Allstar at our fire department, they know no matter what he is always going to be the first to go into that burning house, either to save a family or just the home.
