Help me choose a new vacuum

  1. Mine is in the front yard right now in flames. So I obviously need a new one. I prefer one without a roller brush, one with a hepa filter, and bagless. I want it do be able to do medium height carpet and hardwood. I don't care if it has a canister or is upright. It has to have good suck power. I hate going over the same spot 10-15 times like with my electrolux. I want to spend around $300-400. I also have an electrolux, but it does not suck well. It is a piece of junk. Does anyone have any reccomendations? I want to buy tonight or tomorrow, since I like to vacuum twice a day. (lead issues)

gooey, i'm right with you, mama moooooo.
    i need a vacuum also-even though i've been w/o for months now.
thankfully i have all hardwood floors, no rugs.
so i will eagerly anticipate the responses here.
i too, want incredible sucking power.
and not a clunker, i.e., relatively lightweight.
    right mama mooooooooo?

Yes! I want super sucking power! It would be great if it didn't weigh as much as I do as well.

    Have you looked @ Dyson?

I found this site that evaluated vacuums. Maybe it will help.

Dyson is an excellent brand of vacuum cleaners; however, they tend to be extremely expensive.

dyson consistently gets great reviews, no matter what site i go to.

I am a vacuum freak!! I love to vacuum!! :imbar

I've been through a bunch of different vacuums and they all pretty much sucked (and not in a good way!). A few months ago (probably about 6 or so), I got a new Riccar vacuum and it's awesome! It has a metal brush (which is VERY important if you have dogs/cats or anything with a lot of hair!). A plastic brush is what breaks the vacuum if you have to vacuum up a lot of hair, so that's good to know, get a metal brush. It's an upright, not very big, but it does have a bag (another must have if you have a dog or a lot of dust). I'm sure they do have bagless varieties though. I think I paid about 400-500, but I'm sure they have lower prices depending on what you need. Riccar gets my vote!

My Lindhaus is lightweight, NOT noisy (so says dh!), and it sucks real good. It was a little pricey (I had the money at the time, so I splurged), though. Good luck!

We bought a Sears Kenmore upright. It was a Consumer Reports best buy, cost about $300. It has a HEPA filter, and does a wonderful job of sucking up pet hair. It has little lights that go to green when the floor or carpet is clean. They do have one that's bagless, but I prefer the bag, way too much dust and fur around here.

I went out the other day and was going to bite the bullet and get the Dyson. While in the store I happened across the Euro-Pro Infinity. THese are the people who make the Shark line of vaccums.
THey have the whole cyclonic thing like the Dyson's. I spent 250 for the model that comes with the turbo pet hair brush. Brought it home and was EXTREMELY happy with the results of turning my cat hair white loveseat back into the red it was supposed to be.
The reviews on Amazon and Target were as good as the Dysons.
One problem I noted before going shopping was that the drive belts on the Dysons have been on back order for about 3 months so if you suck up something you shouldn't you are dead in the water till they get them back is stock.
The Infinity has a foot pedal also to dis-engage the beater bar for the wood floors or when using the attachments.
    Check it out.
