Has anyone had a fractured rib before? I think I did. Hurts when I take a adeep breath, REALLY hurts if I cough. No shortness of breath, not coughing up a lung or anything. I read that these things just heal by themselves in time- the only thing you can do is wait. Have not been to a doctor (I know, I know- I should go). Do I need to go, if all I am going to hear is- no heavy lifting, and here is some Vicodin?! I really don't want to do that, but I am getting pretty close.
Anyone have suggestions?
I am grateful for any input.

I'm definitely not a doctor, but I'm sure you have looked for the usual...such as deformity or discoloration. So IMHO ..if you have no resp difficulties, no nausea, fever, etc. I would just get out the Motrin...and rest. Making sure you decreased the pain enough with ice and Motrin to help maintain good resp. toilet. Meaning that you're comfortable enough to allow you to take deep breaths. If you have a job...I think you know though...where you going to have to go. Pain decreases over time, and fx takes from 4-6 even 8 wks in some cases. I really hope this is a muscle strain and not a fx. But even if it's a bruised bone....it will still feel as bad as if you had fx it.
I'm sorry to hear you're in pain.
I hope you are well soon, and this turns out for the best!
