Ted, your post reminds me of how, on the Merv Griffin Show, his 'sidekick', Arthur Treacher, would read song lyrics in his British accent with a kind of withering intonation. It was absolutely hysterical.
The song you so carefully wrote out, Ted, brings home to me that, more often than not, it is the MUSIC which adds to the lyrics and...well, in this case, at least, most assuredly NOT the other way around.

My first college degree is "Film Composition" (writing music for movies, television, etc.) One of the very deliberate functions of film score music is to create "audible emotion". Your wife brilliantly described music.

I rescued her from the emotions of Janice Ian when she was younger. Now she beats me up with Lady Gaga and Pink.

Hello, who are you? I don't know, who are you? I can't remember. Why are you asking me who I am when I don't know? Why don't you know? Why can't you remember? Didn't I tell you why?

I spent some time with the grandson, he has toys that sing to him and one is a phone.

Hello. The phone is ringing so we say hello. (Hello, HELLO, hi, hello)
Goodbye. When I'm done talking then I say bye bye. (Goodbye, goodbye, bye bye)
