have you ever forgotten to pick your child up from school?

  1. I feel like such a heel. I must be the absolute worst mother of all times, REALLY.

I worked last night and got home around 9am. I laid down for a quick nap with my 3 year old around noon and set my alarm clock for 15 minutes before I had to pick up my eldest daughter from school.

I guess my alarm clock didn't go off(I tested it and everything before laying down) because an hour after school got out I was awakened by a knock on the door.

Standing there is my daughter and her teacher. I am so embarrased.

So, has anyone else done something so extremely ignorant as forgetting your child somewhere?

Please tell me I'm not the only one.

    Leigh

don't knock yourself out!!! Not that I forgot to pick my child up, but yes I have overslept myself. My poor baby got off the bus and mommy wasn't there..
Another time I slept through an awards ceremony that I was supposed to go see for my daughter.
I felt like dog crap too!!
But I didn't want you to think you were by yourself.!
....you can come out from under your rock now

You're not the only one Leigh. I work nights and have done the very same thing. Don't feel bad, you're still a good mom.

You didn't forget! You had an equipment failure! Cut yourself some slack!

I think one of the dumbest things I have done as a Mom is one morning in a sleep deprived state I packed my daughters lunch...she came home and said, "Mom, do you realize what you packed for me? A juicebox and a bread sandwich." I hadn't even put the peanut butter and jelly on the bread!

Yeah, me too. And on the days I sleep, I am usually the last mom to pick their kid up.

Thank God it doesn't seem to bother Ian.

I remember one time after working nights I was supposed to go to my son's first grade class to read to them. Well I came home from work and laid down on the couch to JUST TAKE A SHORT NAP before going to the school and I never woke up. I felt so bad.:imbar

I haven't forgotten my children at school, but my husband has. One awful thing that I did, though, was drop off my 6 year old on the first day of 1st grade without taking her into her class. I just dropped her off at the curb. This was her second year there and I figured she'd be fine. Later that day I found out that she had gotten lost and confused wandering the hallway and started to cry. My poor baby was all alone! I felt sooo awful.

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Quit my previous job as was arriving late to pick up kids from aftershool program at 6PM. Boss always had one more thing. Looked at clock one day and it was 6:05---school 15 minutes away. Called teacher and apollogized. Set alarm clock to ring when I needed to leave....started picking up kids on time, bringing them back to office to do homework with bribe of KFC dinner---once a week turned into 2-3 times a week.

They were the paper shreders, medical record clerks and prepared 50 admission packs weekly in exchange for soda and Mickey meal. Finally realized promised help NOT arriving and gave notice. 6 months later company bankrupt and sold--office closed three months later.

Leigh, my mother is a primary school teacher and I remember her frequently dropping kids home when their parents wern't at the gate for whatever reason. You are definetly not the only one and try not to worry about it too much because teachers do not think any less of you for it. We are all human and need to sleep. i know that i, for one, am a shocker for not walking up after quick naps. Here is a couple of stories that have happened to me to make you feel better:
I was 2 years old and out shopping with my aunty at a huge shopping complex and not only had she lost me for 3 hours, but did her grocery shopping, drove it home, put it away and when mum came to pick me up she thought..oh yeah...I had Rachel with me... Luckily an old couple found me and brought me a drink and some lunch until my frantic mother and aunty came looking for me. Also when i was 6 and went out with my brownies ( young girl guides) pack we came home from the city by train, and after waiting for half an hour i walked the two hours home because dad had fallen asleep on the couch. And then there were the many times my parents were running late and i thought they forgot me... heheh AND HERE I AM!! I knoiw they are a little different BUT it just shows it happens to the best of us!!

You are not the worst mom -- you simply overslept. We all have our stories -- and the kids are bound to remember them "member the time when ....." Nobody is perfect -- forgive yourself. Write that teacher a simple thank you note or perhaps bake her some cookies -- she went out of her way. Take care.

I've overslept also and gotten a call from my daughter's teacher . . . . . the funniest experience happened to my husband. He and a friend were the Jr. High Football coaches and having practice one evening, when the friend's wife and I dropped our 9 year old sons off at the football field to watch practice. Both men knew we did this. My husband got home without our son. I asked him "Where is Matt?". He completely forgot to take him home. I called the other coach's wife and her husband was also home without their son. I made a mad dash back to the high school and both boys were sitting on the curb in the dark waiting. I took the other boy home and his mom and I had a good laugh - although we were a bit panicky at first.

We have teased the men ever since.

I personally think you are too harsh on yourself........ you didn't forget to pick her up. You were asleep!!!!!!!!

I haven't done that BUT have been late due to work

Saying that I am no model mum.... when my daughter was at nursery, I.....ummmmm forgot to put knickers on her. Did not find out until she came home:imbar When I asked why she did not have them on she said YOU FORGOT!!!!!!!!

It is something that she has never forgiven me for
