Have my yearly evaluation due this week...

  1. It's that time of year again for me....eval time....I don't know why I dread this so much, but I do....I'm known in my unit to voice my opinions whether the management wants to hear it or not.... I usually get told that I have strong assessment skills and dependable...I always dread this. Never have had a bad eval but I get myself worked up in a fret every year. And even though I have some problems with the way my manager handles the unit she is definitely not a hag or anything....we just have different views on things...(of course she is management I'm not). Does anyone else get themselves worked up into a fret before their evals are due? My stomach gets in knots....:imbar

I work myself up over them too!
My manager even said last time,"You aren't NERVOUS about this are you?"
She was incredulous that I would even think of being concerned. But, hey, it feels like "report card" time to me! I always worry about em, ever since I started working at age 16.

Now remember- if you did anything really wrong, they shoulda already let you know about it. LOL! So, don't worry too much! Hee hee!

Yep, every time. My last 3 evals with my current manager have all been great, but every year when she forwards the self-eval tool to me with the cheery note, "It's that time again!", I wig out.

Don't you just love that self eval thing, NOT!! That is what my manager is getting paid to do....to eval me....I never know how to fill that out. I don't want to come off as being pompous or too down on myself. (After 8 years in the same job, I know what my strengths and weaknesses are for the most part).

We get this little quiz over the safety plans, who is the safety officer and stuff like that...same test I have take for at least 4 years...

Thanks for all the great replies....now if I can just convince myself that it will be okay....

I always take a docked score and don't complete the self eval. What a waste.

And yes, I wig out every single time. My last one was actually very good, and I was extremely pleased with it. But at the same time, I'm not really sure where it came from.

I enjoy the evaluation. That way I know what I need to improve on and what I am doing right.

    I am odd I guess,

I have never sweated over my evals. No surprises have ever come up. Self-eval is easy. I am honest and forthright and not afraid to admit my shortcomings and areas needing improvement, yet also tout my strengths. I always have a goal in mind for the next year. It never is such a big deal to me. Never have I lost sleep over these annual reports. And I hope never I will.

Everything went well. Got told the same thing I do every year. Talk too much, and need to improve my attitude. Have strong assessment skills and help others when I can. Boss did say though even though I talk too much I get my work done in a timely manner...so what's the big deal then? Got a small raise...which was more than I was expecting since I thought I topped out the scale last year. Not going to argue with it though. I always get myself worked up over these and really I have never had a bad one....I am just a big worry wart.

Never had any doubts your eval would be a good one, despoohbear. Phew! Now that's over for another year.

This expresses my feelings about evals best. Mine was due in January, but we've had a lot of management changes in the past year and my last eval was 5 months late in May 2002, so I'll go whenever my manager lets me know she's ready to do it.

I'm glad yours went well, deespoohbear, and you can take it easy for another year. I'm generally a worrywort, too, but like the above quote, I usually know what to expect and if anything, am harder on my self eval than necessary.

I really dont worry about my evals....I do my best....and that is what they get...I trust most of my co-workers and we work well with each other...I trust them to tell me when i need to shape up and they do...What can I say..I work with a wonderful group of floor staff...but the managment and place in general are going downhill...fast...one has to know 'someone' to get anywhere with managment...and I dont but up with that BS
