Has Anyone Ever Had A Stress Dream?

  1. When I was in nursing school, I dreamed the entire class had post clinical discussion at a long table at the school, where our lockers were located. We all put our belongings in our lockers, and then we sat down bare naked around that long table for discussion. The instructor, who was an army nurse, and as she proudly mentioned in a news clip about her retiring from the army last night, she uses the same style in her teaching her classes. Yeah, I for one will always remember her. When she said jump, we asked, "How high?"

Sometimes I have those dreams night after night after night.I often dream I'm back in junior high and can't get my locker open or I've lost my schedule and don't know what my next class is or how to get to it.I also dream that it's the end of my shift and I discover a whole room of patients I have never even assessed or a wing of residents that I have not passed any meds to......I never have dreams like that set in nursing school-I think because that was the first time in my life that I was ever really where I wanted to be .This a.m. I had a dream that I was sitting on the toilet to urinate-then I woke up.You can guess the rest .......How are you,Fran?

I've seen my better days, but hey, I have a lot of good memories, and I have you guys to talk to. How blessed I am. Yep, I even have my happy juice when the pain gets unbearable. Being on here with you helps a lot too. It helps me keep my mind off myself. Ya no what I mean? So I'm thankful for what I do have.:caduceus:

This cute little boy is close to pulling his hair out.

But I'll remember the "Happy juice" when I start working::

Patient: Nurse! I'm in a lot of pain....
Me: Would you like some happy juice?

LOL happy juice! My patients would say "oh what flavor" and I would say "um...lets see...RED!". LOL!!!!!

I have had stress dreams lots of times! I am a nurse but back in RN school and not able to do anything and it driving me nuts. Or there was a mix up and I didn't actually graduate and I had to come back. Or I am in a totally new facility and trying to figure out what the heck is going on and why I am there...sometimes with no scrubs but street clothes on...stuff like that! The worse is dreams about forgetting a med or something that harms a patient...I have had those where I dreamed I forgot an IV antibiotic and the patient all the sudden coded and it was my fault... The stressful thing is waking up and wondering if I did forget to hang that IV? LOL!

:chuckle Sounds like one of my "Stress Dreams".

I dream that I'm trying to fly, but just can't seem to get off the ground. I've had LOTS of these dreams over the past 20 years. :uhoh21: I figure when I get my life right, I'll be able to finally soar off the ground. :spin:

Oooooh, I do LOVE those flying dreams ! They're my best dreams EVER !!!

Genlty soaring above... I remember dreaming of the actual "lift off"... how I ran and ever so gently rose up, up, up............... it was so awesome. And how others below were asking how I did that.. and me trying to show them... I'll never forget that dream.
I dream I'm flying quite often, and always hate to wake up... wanna stay up there forever !

I had a dream once that I was working in the neuro-ICU again and it was 5am, at the end of the night shift. Only then did I realize I had ANOTHER patient that I forgot about! His EVD had filled the chamber and was flowing into the bag....IV bags were dry.....poop everywhere.....
I woke up at 4am in a cold sweat. I've never been so happy to realize "it was only a dream"!!

LOL Leah...I've had those....have had several of the dreams mentioned here. I have even woke up in the middle of the night 'hearing' a call light or a vent alarm that just won't stop. Those seem to always happen 2-3 AM when I have to get up at 5AM to go to work

Oh Lordy, Fran, ask my journalmates about some of my dreams. When I'm stressed, I have some real doozies. Whilst anxious about a project audit earlier this year, I dreamt that I witnessed the collapse of an entire parking garage. My most common one is facing finals week when I haven't been to class all semester and have lost a syllabus and can't find out any important information about the exam.

Had a dream that I was working night shift and I fell asleep while charting on the computer. We have bed alarms for confused pts, and one escaped and the alarm had been going off for 10 mins!!! When I jumped out of the chair I fell out of bed and realized it wasn't real.

Not really a dream, but I've answered the phone in the middle of the night after a very busy shift and I picked it up and said "First floor, this is Elizabeth". And we have special lights in the br that ring faster and louder than the reg ones. Heard one in my sleep, got out of bed and walked to the br trying to find the button to silence it.

I think I think about work too much!

Do the high school dreams never end? I'm still having the same dream almost 10 years later: It's the last day of school and I forget my locker combination. I get yelled at in the guidance office for forgetting it and being stupid.
