  1. Happy Wednesday!

Baby Morgen is still in Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, I was there all day. Several doctors came by as well as a group of students. His WBC this morning was 9.8, UA looked good, no temp, still on IV Rocephin. The doctor said that his WBC is elevated in his spinal fluid and that the culture will be ready Wednesday afternoon as well as the blood and urine cultures. He looks sooo much better. Thank God we live close to Vanderbilt. The hospital is "huge" and quite a place. It's about 10 stories high. Each floor devoted to different diagnoses. They have 2 ER's. One is for children who are sent over by their pediatrican and there is no waiting (this is where Morgen was sent). The other is a regular walk in ER but for peds only. Each floor has an awesome playroom. Today they had live puppet shows and clowns visiting. The TV has alot of educational shows on 24/7 i.e. "Taking care of your child's new colostomy". Everyone has been wonderful to us My SIL is there now. They have loads of security, all of the units are locked down. You have to have a special pass from the parents in order to actually get in.

http://www.vanderbiltchildrens.com/i...r.php?mid=1985 You can send him an e-card in the hospital. How neat is that!
If you would like to send dd or the baby an get well e-card at the hospital, PM me and I'll give you the names and room number. First I posted them because you're all my friends and then I thought, ah oh this is the world wide web, better PM that info. Thanks for all the get well prayers! I love you guys. I'll check my PM's in the morning before I leave.

Dutch, just sent Morgen a card. Glad to hear that he's doing better. What is B strep, menigitis or whatever you mentioned yesterday? Sorry, I forget but I do remember it was serious.

    Good night muffie.

I'm headed to bed soon too. Writing a paper and I'm dragging my feet on.

Ok, I sounded stupid. I know what strep and meningitis is, but I have never heard of late onset group b.

I'll just have to google that.

No, have not typed another word on my paper. I'm boycotting papers this week.

Thanks Bethy! I know it will mean alot to my dd. My dd tested positive for group B strep, which is screened in all pregnant women at the end of their pregnancy because it can be fatal in a baby. The acquire it from the birth canal. In dd's case she had a c-section but her water did break to the baby was still exposed. She was given prophylatic antibiotics but they don't work 100% of the time. If the baby contracts group b strep during birth they normally have respiratory symptoms, develop pneumonia, can very sick and can be fatal. Sometimes they contract it and it doesn't show up for a couple of months...called "late onset group b strep", in this case the strep affects usually either the bloodstream or the brain and the baby can be septic or have meningitis. Basically an infection of the brain. Scary stuff. Poor little guy had a lumbar puncture, blood cultures, cathed urine culture, blood work, x-rays, barium enema and now IV fluids and IV antibiotics. He looks so much better than yesterday. Thanks for asking and for caring. You guys are the greatest.

    Good morning, all! :kiss

DutchgirlRN: I'm glad to hear that your grandchild is looking better.

I arrived home from the health club within the past twenty minutes or so, and am planning to take a bath and shave my legs very soon. Then I must hit the sack, because I have to wake up for A&P lab and lecture in the late morning and early afternoon hours.

Take care, and have a fulfilling day!

I like your explanation. Question though, if your dd tested positive why did they not start Morgen on antibiotics after birth? Or is it just not standard practice to expose antibiotics to a baby when it's not 100% positive he would need them?

Could this have harmed your dd? I'm finding this very interesting.

Dutch, I'm so glad to hear Morgen is better.
How comforting he's in such a good hospital.
I have ALWAYS maintained kids need peds specialists (hospitals too).
    They're not just little adults.

Tried convincing Aetna of that once.

    I'm off to bed.

    Y'all have a good day!

So glad to hear of little Morgen's progress! I was riding my bike earlier and praying for those on my prayer list. Morgen was one of them.

Off to bed - see you all for coffee and tea in the morning.

Good morning everyone. Waiting for a change in my patient assignment. The patient I was to see passed away sometime during the night. His wife was a lovely lady and I'll be praying for her. Well, guess I better get ready just in case they send me a distance from home.

I'm so glad Morgan is doing better. I'll keep the little one in prayer for a full recovery.

I hope you all have a lovely God blessed day.
