Happy Monday Sept 17th

  1. happy monday all peeps...

sunday we had a baby shower for baby morgan who is now 5 weeks old. it turned out nice. the baby goes to vanderbilt on tuesday to see a pediatric urologist about his bilateral inguinal hernias. he's really growing, already 12+ pounds.

the weather here is still wonderful. sunny and 75. woo hoo !

alaska: (the klondike gold rush) we took a 4 hour train ride along the yukon trail. the yukon trail was over 500 miles long, the first of it being 35 grueling miles along a narrow and steep trail.

stampeders had to care a year's supply of goods with them, averaging 1000 lbs. they only had themselves and pack mules to carry the goods down the trail. if they didn't have at least 1,000 pounds with them they were not allowed to go.

there was such a continuous line of stampeders that if they got off of the narrow trail they would have to wait 3-4 hours to get back onto the trail. the gold had been found 2 years prior to the news reaching the lower 48 states and the areas of gold had already had claimed staked against them so when they finally did get there there was nothing left for them to find other than very small amounts of gold .

after the original gold strikes the only person to make money was a woman (i forget her name) who baked pies and sold them for $2.00 each which is equivalent to $80.00 in today's money!

as we were walking to board the train we looked up and saw these dogs in a window. of course we had to get a photo.

you can see the actual yukon trail in these next two photo's. enjoy!

Dutch - I ran into some old friends last week who just got back from a cruise to Alaska . . . . they did not have a good time because the weather was bad the whole time . . they said they barely even saw a glacier . . .. . . .sad, huh?

Love the doggies in the window.

Well, off to bed . . .see you on Monday for real . . . except I'll be gone all day.

I learned so many amazing things about Alaska. i.e. there's one person for every 3 miles, there are twice as many reindeer (caribou) in Alaska as there are people.

Di, I am so thrilled that scar is so much better. Is he at home yet?

That happened to my FIL too. Yes sad, especially knowing how much it costs. Next summer Tuscany Italy!

Have a good Monday wherever, whatever you'll be doing tomorrow. Cheers!

    Good afternoon from "Down Under!"
    Hope everyone enjoys their monday!
I still haven't read the threads from the past couple of days! But, I get the idea one of your kitty's has been ill, Di? Hope there's an improvement today. Our pets are special and part of the family.
After I completed the housework and washing earlier, I showered and went to the supermarket, bank, and library. Now it's time to bring the washing in off the line and begin getting serious about preparing tea.
So, there ya have it, my *exciting* monday! lol
Take care all and I wish you a safe, happy and healthy week ahead!
    Cheers..............

    Good morning

dr's appt this am then i work tonight.

in addition to 8 stitches in my finger i now have 4 in my forehead, 3 along my jawline and a broken righ arm. so forgive me for typing in lowercase. car hit me on the interstate fri and i hit the concrete wall and the perp didn't stop. so in order to pay my bills i've agreed that i would do uc work as long as the dr said ok. he hasn't but my employer doesn't know this. i'm just glad im not so flippin' angry - fri i was irate, screaming at the officer to find that arse that did this. i wasn't too nice. oh, and i'm right handed so i will probably have to drop out of this semester. mri today for left shoulder. not broken but it hurts worse than anything else. possible muscle problems and joint issues.

my new 2007 accord is totalled. i never had to make a car payment as i got that from my grandpa when he died. so now i have to find a car that i can afford - which won't be much. that's another thing that ticks me off.

needless to say i feel like utter crap. now i have cramps. ok, no more whining about me.

dutch, your pictures are beautiful! i loved the ones that you took of the glacier and the northern lights. that's why i want to go to alaska - see northern lights. i have heard that if you tap a tree three times they will appear. i'll tryi it if i make it up there. my parents want to take a vacation there and maybe when i'm done with school my db and i can pool our money and buy them tickets to alaska.

i hope everyone has a lovely monday!
