Happy Friday, November 3!

  1. i'm getting ready to head to bed, but thought i'd start the good-morning thread first. i'm trying to ease into day mode. i work 7a-7p this saturday and sunday. blech!

dh and i received some good news. i had my ultrasound yesterday and our baby is a healthy, bouncing baby boy! now i can't wait to meet him. i thought dh was going to turn a cartwheel in the exam room. dh's parents went with us and it was really nice. i told him to ask them because the technology wasn't there when they had dh and his brother. the flat, dull photos don't really do the actual images on the screen justice. they were really excited. apparently, (according to dear fil) this child has a pony on the way. no, he's not going to be spoiled at all.

i hope everyone has a wonderful day and weekend. russell and others that had bad news yesterday, warm fuzzies sent your way. xxoo

Hiya NurseBaby. Thanks for starting the a.m. thread. I just got home from 3-11 shift myself. Whew.

Congratulations on your baby boy!!! How exciting!!!

I had such a hectic shift. Two admissions...one at quarter to 11...what's up with that? Had a dear gentlemen actively dying and started an IV morphine drip on him. The family (large family) left and he was in Cheyne Stokes. Had to deep suction him a few times just to keep him comfortable. About 10:30 charge nurse told me he was bradycardic so we both went back to his room and held his hands and comforted him so he wouldn't pass alone. Another gentlemen receiving blood with IV infiltrated. Couldn't find another vein to finish transfusion to save my life. finally got one so that slowed everything down. then just fussy patients, admissions, one discharge, new NG tube, etc. etc. Didn't tape report until after midnight. :spin:

at least I"ll be off tomorrow and the weekend unless I get one of those phone calls. Lots of errands to do but I have to unwind first and sleep. Got really cold too.....30 degrees on the way home. brrrrr

    Hey everyone

Congradulations NurseyBaby'05! My parents BOTH wanted girls but all they got was my brother and I I hope your pregnancy proceeds as you wish. Saubhagyavati Bhavaha!

Where I come from, it is tradition to wish a married woman "Saubhagyavati Bhavaha" (Sanskrit for "May you beget a hundred children"). Kinda seems "outdated" in this day and age but tradition is tradition

Hi Mercy! Now if only we can have more Sabres fans too

Hi Suzy! I had a shift like that two days in a row. 8 hour shifts that dragged on for 14 hours a piece. My feet had fun those days.... NOT! Hope you catch up on some rest .... I can't wait for the overtime pay to come through

Gracie! How is dh doing? He must be doing well - he has a splendid nurse in attendence I wish you'd start more GM threads!

Ok folks, here's your song for the day! (Alternate - this is a very nice version too! It's actually pretty cool)

I just read a very touching, inspiring, heart warming email from Father. Some of you might know (or not) but my Father and I have had a lot of 'issues' as I was growing up. We still have many ... but despite our differences, it seems like we might finally be connecting on some level.

For all his faults though - he is a very honest, very principled and a very supportive man. And for all our differences, I'd be lying if I said that he didn't have a hand in making me who I am today. I know that today he is very proud of who I am and what I do - and this just makes the struggle I had to endure to get where I am all that more worhtwhile and sweeter. And it'll lighten my load for the struggle ahead - for it is not done yet.

    Not by a long stretch!

I guess I'm just feeling this way not just because of that email I got from Father - but because it's partially a vindication of a struggle I've largely been fighting on my own for almost 7 years now.

    Yep - it feels great!

Sooooo, I'm gonna head back to finish watching my movie "Empire of the Sun".

    Catch y'all later

    Good Morning!

    Congrats NurseyB on the ultrasound.

Roy, good luck with the relationship with dad. There comes a time when we realize our parents are only fragile human beings doing the best they can in a tough and demanding world with tough and demanding kids. I love the Stereophonics and love that song.

Today is a work day for me. I can say TGIF because I'm off the weekend.

You're telling me..I have ran my a** off tonight (my 4th 12 hour night shift); with the little 20 something "kid nurses" sitting at the front desk in the room - not offering to help oh NO....lets shop, lets gossip, lets shop some more or go with our little cliche for a walk ( so you take lets see 3 breaks insted of just one!)----Help??? Even if asked Oh no - act like you don't hear and than if you are called on it act as tho the other nurse has no right to confront you...cause you never heard anyone ask for help?!

Many of you are in this age group (or I think you are)...what is the deal!? Why do you ask for respect and never give any!? I never remember anyone acting this way when I was this age...we put our pts first; always asked a coworked how we could help....and when all was done and no one was stressed than we chatted not before?

It's a two way street people!

    Mornin' y'all!

No school today, but I'm going up there to practice in the lab for NGT, wound care dressing change, and catheter check-offs.

Wifes alarm rang this morning at 0500 and I forgot I didn't have to get up early this morning but decided to stay up anyway.
This week was kinda strange at work. I'm working LTC and we were told that the "big raises" we had been waiting 6 weeks for had finally been approved. They were going to be based on years in the facility and also your total years as a nurse.
My big raise was .73 cents.
I figure every 2 weeks I could buy a bottle of JD with all that money.
Just encourages me to retire all the sooner.
I have an ATV business on the side and have 3 machines going out this morning so that is a good reason to stay up and wait for the sun.
    Good morning all.
