Forgive me for saying...but you kinda sound like an angry republican. Not really the way to prove your point.
I think what you said is overgeneralizing a bit. I am a liberal and a democrat and I am pretty happy. That's like saying all republicans are tightly wound and arrogant.
I think people are individuals...I've known some pretty miserable republicans. I met most of them on election day.
Anyway, I don't think the original intent of this post was to start a p*ssing match between affiliation or determine party superiority.
Could be wrong. Hope I'm not.
Actually I am not a Republican at all. A moderate conservative however. And I'm not angry---not like some of the liberals I know, who even after the election, refused to discuss any of the issues once they found out I might disagree with them. When someone ends a friendship because their friend doesn't hold the same political beliefs and has the audacity to openly state that, well, I think that person is angry. And I know quite a few people who won't discuss the issues: and they all voted for Obama.
And even here on AN, the conservatives are not given a lot of freedom to discuss their opinions without being thrown to the wolves. But the libs can state openly their hatred for GWB, some even admitting they prayed he would die, without anybody calling foul. Now if any of the conservatives would say such a thing about BHO, we'd be instantly labeled racist. So maybe you can see the unbalanced part of this.
I will admit to being quite skeptical of the new administrations policies. I have not yet seen a real way to pay for all he wants to do, I have some real issues with who he's put into power positions (based on their inexperience) and of course hoe many of them are crooks, liars and cheats. Again, you guys would rightfully be calling foul if it were a REpublican adminstration, but if we conservatives cry foul, there's always an excuse. He's not even willing to tell Congress how he's going to pay for the health care reform he's cramming down our throats, probably because he doesn't yet have a clue. Hopefully, some of his own will start to put some brakes on this whole thing before it gets so far out of hand that we'll never catch up.
Now I didn't give GWB a free pass either. There were some things about his administration that I did not agree with either. But at least he didn't scare me.
That being said, I guess the point of the study was to show we are getting more alike. I'm not sure I want us all to be alike, as that seems like it would be really boring. We'd have nothing to discuss, even when we found a willing partner; there'd be no reason for any kind of creativity; and what an awful world that would be.
