Had to put dog to sleep

  1. I had to put my dog Frisky to sleep last Friday (3/14) and it has utterly devastated me. I pretty much am alone and my dog has been my faithful companion for 7 years and I feel so lost without her. I still cry a lot and wonder what I am going to do without her. She had CHF and pulmonary edema and it was obvious she was suffering so I had a mobile vet come to my house and had her put to sleep at home. I know some of you have been thru this before so any stories of your pets would be appreciated. I just miss her so and on top of that I found out last week that my brother is seriously ill and it's been a wee bit too much to handle in one week.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had to put my beloved Rottweiler to sleep a few years ago. She had CA that had mets to the bone. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Had her with me for 8 years. I still miss her. She was such a big part of the family.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm also very sorry , I had a cat who lived to be 17 years old and it broke my heart when we had to put her to sleep
pets really do love you unconditionally - we human folk should take some lessons from them!

It is devasting! My wife and I watched our poor dog Zuul as the vet put her to sleep. A profoundly sad event.

Hugs to you and your family.

    My sincerest condolences.

Here's my story...I worked as a veterinary technician for several years after high school. I have euthanised or assisted in the euthanisation of at least 100 animals, probably more. All were necessary, and none were easy.

My own cat, Peje, died at age 7 from acute renal failure of unknown etiology. He was fine one day, vomiting and lethargic the next, and less than four days after the initial diagnosis, we had to euthanise him. I assisted; I held off the vein, bagged the body, and made the crematory arrangements. I picked up the urn, paid the bill, and did it all without a tear. Three weeks later, I was sitting on my sofa and looked down to find a cat hair (his) stuck on my sweater. I couldn't stop sobbing for two hours.

    I'm so sorry. ((((hugs))))

I started crying when I read your post. I've had animals in my life since I was a child, and it's never easy to lose them. Seems like as I get older, they are more important to me-- maybe I just feel more responsible for them.

I lost three dogs between fall of 2001 and fall of 2002. The first one had a hemangiosarcoma, the second one apparently inhaled a foxtail and developed a raging pulmonary infection, and the third had lymphoma. My two dogs now are healthy, as are all five of the cats, although a couple of the cats are beginning to show some age.

Sending positive thoughts for your brother, too.

So sorry for your loss. I too, have had to put down a dog that I loved. I still cry when I think of it. She was the best girl, and trusted me her 15 years in all things, and then trusted me to do what was best at her end. I did write a letter or tribute of sort to her and keep it still. I think it helped me in my grieving for her.

Also, will say a prayer for your brother.

Fulwood I am so sorry you had to do that. Two years ago I had to put one of my cats down and I sobbed like a baby. I cried several days. I had to get another animal to keep my other cat company because he was walking around crying all the time for my other cat.

I also have a dog named Kirby. That dog was my hubby's dog when we married. He is now my dog. I love him so much. I fear the day he is not with me because I am so attached. I had a lab for about 11 years and he died while I had him boarded and I was on vacation.I was devastated.

Can you post a picture of you beloved dog?
