Had a bad fall today.

  1. I fell face down right in front of my front door this afternoon. Fargin' driveway like sheet of glass. Jammed my right ring finger, and bruised the right knee. Sore as hell too. Oh well, this'll teach me to run out of salt!!! :imbar (Note to self: Pick up salt tomorrow ASAP) Feeling so STOOPID right now. I'd laugh but it hurts too much. At least I still have one good hand to type with!! Love you guys, Your clutzy friend, WW.

We'll have to nickname you "CRASH" now... glad you weren't seriously injured.

Damn, hope your soreness goes quickly. I've had a few nasty falls, they hurt like hell. This may sound awful but I think you'll know what I mean - I hope your bruises are big and black, then you can play the sympathy vote with family and friends for a week or so. Nothing worse than aching all over and having no bruising to show for it - people think you're making it up.

The only reason there has not been even more broken hips this year than usual is that most elderly people are to terrified to step out the door. Most of the falls are happening to younger folks cause we keep trying to walk on drive ways and side walks that could double as rinks for the olympics. Glad you are not hurt bad, hope you feel better. I have taking a bad fall or two this winter myself, lucky so far nothing broken.

Took a homecare referral today for a 37 yo woman with Intractable back pain.

She fell on ice, got up and went home. Within 12 hrs having leg pain and numbness, dribling urine. 24 hrs later in ER, sever pain and unable to void--cathed for 1000CC urine.

Dx: Neuropatic bladder due to nerve inflamation, intractable pain.
    TEN DAY hospital stay. YIKES!!

I'm wearing my sneakers to work most days as great traction---fall prevention over beauty anyday.

    OMG that is awful!!

I have slipped at least three times on the ice this year, but I guess these 40-yr old bones still have a little rubber in 'em!!

The last time I fell, I was leaving a pt's house, walking to the next house down the street b/c it was right after the blizzard and there was hardly anywhere to park in the city. Fell onto my R knee, and luckily, my pride was hurt more than anything else! Pt wife was standing in doorway, and a man accross the street who was sitting on his porch guarding the dug-out parking places (probably w a gun!) They saw me fall, but luckily didn't laugh. Quite a few of the HH nurses have fallen at pt's homes.

Duckie sends you hugs my sweet friend!!! I got a weird question to ask........why is it, when you see someone fall, your first instinct is to laugh? It's not that we think it's funny that someone might be hurt, but we just automatically start laughing....why is that? We had this nurse at work fall one night in a rain storm. We all went running, all of us we laughing, including her, even though she was in pain. We carried her into the building and all got totally drowned, drove her to the hospital and sure enough, her leg was broken. Nothing funny about it, but we were all laughing. Why do we do this???? Puzzles the dickens outta me????

I think we do it because our first thought is we're glad it's not us doing the falling, plus it's unexpected and spontaneous which is bound to get a reaction. Damn this hand is sore. My good typing hand too!! Thanks for all the healing thoughts and good wishes my friends. Duckster, you're too sweet to me I swear!! WW.

Knee is stable? Get it examined if it feels unstable. Healing thoughts to you!

    Y'all be careful out there!
