Great Moments in Music 003 "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce

  1. It's a simple ballad. . . a love song. Many, many love song ballads have been written throughout history. Many of them are quite beautiful. This is simple and beautiful. Between the lyrics, the melody and the guitar playing, it's a well-crafted song. And since hearing it 40+ years ago, I still find it timeless.

I wonder how much different the song would have been if Jim Croce had not been singing it?

It is one of the good ones.

To your list, I'd add "Yesterday" by the Beatles and "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", Simon & Garfunkle. The originals are just too good to be duplicated by others.

I love Jim Croce. "Time in a Bottle" is not my favorite of his, but I like hearing his voice anyway.

I love both of these songs......they take me right back to sophomore year in HS and my first serious boyfriend. Those are some of my best memories.

Same here, VivaLasViejas. Both take me back to my first "serious" sweetheart. Actually, both songs fit just fine with my current and life-long sweetheart! (How mushy is THAT! LOL! )

Jim Croce wrote a lot of simple yet well-crafted tunes with much thought in lyrics and melody. It was a sad day when he died. It's nice to know that his music is still appreciated decades from when they were first recorded.
