Got A Good Cold Remedy?

  1. I could kick myself this year; I got too busy to get the flu shot. Here I sit nursing a cold. I have my favorite remedy in hand, homemade green chile stew. Sure it makes you feel better!

What's your favorite remedy for a cold? Does it work?

Maybe if you add a touch of whiskey.......

I usually double up on vitamin C and drink lots of water. My sis swears by ecchinacea (sp?).

But you know what they say - If treated a cold will last a week, if left alone it will go away in 7 days.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

Elevate head at nite to promote drainage (helps prevent stopped-up nose).
Take Echinacea (the three caps tid, as recommended), Vit C (I take 1000mg bid or tid) and Zinc as directed (a friend at work swears if he takes echinacea as directed for 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off, during the winter, he doesn't get sick).
Lots of water/citrus/lay off the sugar!
    Rest, rest, rest.
When throat feels sore, a wool sock wrapped around throat (pin it to keep it in place) at nite is very soothing (keeps me warm --- but don't wind TOO tightly!).
If I have to work, I take Sudafed during day. I try not to take anything at nite, it usually keeps me up (even Benadryl), and if ya can't sleep, ya can't get better. VERY important to suppress a cough at nite so you can rest. Dextromethorphan (for OTC cough relief), or codeine if you have it. Lemon and honey for short-term throat tickle relief.
Some of the above sounds weird, but that's what helps me.

My daughter has been home from school all week, feeling lousy, pounding headache, sore throat, aches, fever, etc... I took her to the Dr. and she doesn't have strep throat (Thank God) so just lots of juice, tea, chicken soup, sherbert . Advil cold and Sinus helps her a lot too. Of course babying by mom helps too. I wish there was a magic pill to make all you sickies feel better.

Lots of fluids, rest, NyQuil, and takin' it easy. Preferably having someone wait on you
