Elevate head at nite to promote drainage (helps prevent stopped-up nose).
Take Echinacea (the three caps tid, as recommended), Vit C (I take 1000mg bid or tid) and Zinc as directed (a friend at work swears if he takes echinacea as directed for 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off, during the winter, he doesn't get sick).
Lots of water/citrus/lay off the sugar!
Rest, rest, rest.
When throat feels sore, a wool sock wrapped around throat (pin it to keep it in place) at nite is very soothing (keeps me warm --- but don't wind TOO tightly!).
If I have to work, I take Sudafed during day. I try not to take anything at nite, it usually keeps me up (even Benadryl), and if ya can't sleep, ya can't get better. VERY important to suppress a cough at nite so you can rest. Dextromethorphan (for OTC cough relief), or codeine if you have it. Lemon and honey for short-term throat tickle relief.
Some of the above sounds weird, but that's what helps me.
