Beach gardens...we would go to the ocean state parks and pick up shells, ray egg containers, chonch egg sacks, drift wood, etc and arrange it in a "garden". We all would work on it all day long just above the tide line, and leave it for the next person to find.

My mom was very strict about not taking it home. That these things were beautiful in their own enviroment and at our house they would just be clutter, and that other people would not be able to enjoy them.

We would load up the old VW mini-bus with all the cousins 2 or 3 adults with 6-12 kids (yes in one vehicle cheaper that way). Pack a picinic lunch, mostly home made bread, fresh veg from our own gardens and hard boiled eggs (cheap) frozen gallons of water and mint tea.

Head to beach to body surf and build sand castles...never on a holiday or weekend

These days I think the garden would be soda cans and cig. butts. Crowds make it impossible to feel safe with that few adults to kid ratio.

    kinda sad

OH oh oh another sweet summer memory occured to me on the walk I just took...

LIGHTNING BUGS coming out at dusk.....thousands of em....Oh how I loved to catch em in a jar and watch it glow....

and BUTTERFLIES everywhere. They were the color palate for the sky and added to our gardens.

sniff where did they all go? sooooooo nostalgic today.
Lightening bugs ! We have gazillions of them here every night ! Pati and I were just discussing them as we sat out on the porch in the evenings while they were here.. she was so thrilled to see them.

And we have more butterflies here this year than ever... they just LOVE dh's flowers !

Good afternoon! Partly cloudy here at the moment. It's been busy this morning....gee, it followed a busy weekend. Go figure?

My favorite summertime memory was visiting my aunt, uncle & cousins south of Atlanta in june of '75. I visited with them for a week without the rest of my family. I learned to roller skate, went blackberrying, swimming, pulled weeds in the garden, and helped my cousin make a cake unfit for consumption by company. It was a great week! One of the few when I was just a kid...rather than a grown-up 11 y/o (and that didn't happen very often, that's for sure!).

Hope all of you had a great weekend. Mine was very productive. Got the closet organized Saturday & am now working my way around the house. My DH doesn't know what to make of me...so he keeps me fed & stays out of my way. Smart man.

Good afternoon everyone! Boy, I was glad to see Kim back among us! (I know I'm not the only one!!)

My day started early, as I had to go register for classes this morning! I had the opportunity to take A and P I, but I chickened out anyway! I figure I'll take two prereq's and if I can handle those two w/o any problems, perhaps I'll take it next summer term which starts in July. This month, anyway, I'm taking a Physical Education class (nothing fun like a sport or anything to get me into shape, just an actual book class) and Western Civilization I. Funny thing is, I came home and read the first chapter in the PE book, and it literally put me to sleep. I hope it gets better, that's all I can say. I haven't looked into the Western Civ book yet.. had to make the kiddos some lunch (and check in here) first.

The good news is that I got my results back from the test over the weekend, and I *did* get that other point!!! Woo hoo!!! That means this fall, I'll have about 2K in fin aid and I'll only have to buy my books! The rest of it comes back to me!

Glad to see that everyone made it back from their holiday trips and excursions safely and somewhat relaxed! I'll check in w/ everyone later on this evening. I still have to clean off my desk to get organized for the rest of my academic life! The sun is shining beautifully today.. nice breeze and cooler than normal temps. I'm beginning to like the sun a bit more, but never fear... I wore jeans today!
