Good Thursday Morning, 2/10/04

  1. I know. I cheated, but it's the only way I know od that I can start a Good morning thread. So do forgive me please? Welcome one and all. We're a friendly, and sometimes frisky bunch here.
    Welcome NorthernRN.
Yesterday morning, when I went back to bed, I took my morning meds with some Benadryl, and off to la la land I went. I was awakened by a distant phone ringing sound. So I picked up my phone, and sure enough, it was for me. One of my former classmates was going for her lap chole at 4:30 PM. I told her I better hang up the phone before I went unconscious, and asked her to call me when she got home and feeling better.
Then I went back to sleep. Sometime later I heard a knock on the door. I yelled, "Come in!" Some elderly lady appeared with her granddaughter, and she said she came to see me for one of her friends who wasn't able to come see me herself, but wanted to know how I was. ( Even though she told me her name and that of her granddaughter, I don't remember who it was!)But I do remember her telling me she would be back in a few days. I woke up and got up at 1:30 PM.

I'm just happy to be home after my little adventure this week.........but I'd better stick with my cardiac diet for BF: fake eggs with one slice of low-sodium bacon, two slices of whole wheat toast w/ jam, no butter, and decaf coffee.

Hope all is well with you all..........sure is good to be home!!

    Morning everybody.

Boy what a shift I had yesterday. I had the hateful old lady who liked to scream and fuss over everything, I mean simple things. I asked if she preferred me (a male) to clean her up after a BM or to get the female NA, and she screams at me for laziness. I was prepping three patients for different procedures and gave her 9 am meds at 9:30 and caught hell cause they were late (hospital policy allows for an hour before/after due time). I had a patient arrest at lunch (more on that later) and was screamed at for giving insulin at 1:00, sorry I'm sure the other patient would prefer that I attend to her problems first. On and on she went.

I received one patient post bronchoscopy, they gave a small maybe 40 kg 16 year old 7mg versed and 100 mcg fentanyl. In report they said she was alert and talking. I get her back in respatory arrest breathing agonally and completely unresponsive. Thank God for narcan. Works like a charm, but NM said that recovery from moderate sedation was obviously incomplete and I would have to finish "recovering" the patient. VS and LOC checks every 15 min until patient returned to pre-procedure baseline, however long that took (3 hrs). Not to mention all the documentation that accompanies the respatory arrest of a patient, thankfully we didn't have to intubate her although we came close.

Then I was informed that the intern of another patient failed to write for me to hold Toprol XL on a patient undergoing a cardiolyte stress test, as a result the patient could not have the test and would have to stay another day. Needless to say, the attending was pissed. Thankfully NM prevented him from taking out his frustration on me.

Oh well, I am home. DUKE BEAT UNC:hatparty: :hatparty: :hatparty: :hatparty: . I am going to bed, hope everyone has a great day. I have class today, see ya in the am.

    good morning y'all -

fran, so great to see you! hey, you can start the morning thread any ole time you want - you've got my permission!
that was so sweet of the lady and her granddaughter to come visit. hopefull when they return you won't need to use their names. do you still have your left arm in a sling?

presc, o.k. now darlin', don't know about the philippines but somehow suspect chocolate chips is not an average breakfast. am i correct? but, having said that it is just after midnight here and chocolate chips may just go fine with beer, so thanks!

hi suzanne when are you leaving for phoenix?

marla, yes, bet being home is a lot better than the hospital. good for you with the healthy breakfast!

dale, have a sweet sleep. :zzzzz

nurseboy, your day yesterday sounds like one that would make me rethink my reasons for going into nursing. dang good thing its not an everyday experience. so lovely to see a student come in and get the patient no other nurse wants to touch with a 10 foot pole. :chuckle have a good sleep.

lil'girl, congratulations on that wonderful test result!!! :hatparty: way to go!!! :hatparty: pat yourself on the back.

angie, glad you finally got your score on the math test. hey, you passed and that is the important thing, right? will a c influence your financial aid?

i'm trying out smaller print to see if my post comes out more like a note, and less like a novel.
was going to turn in my resignation on wednesday, cause my supervisor was supposed to show up in the afternoon. well, she never showed or even called. so now guess i will have to write it out and send it off to her today. hate writing letters of resignation, but one must do what one must do.

last night i got to start reading my mystery so am going to go now and read some more. and have a beer of course. so, goodnight to my cyber family. hope we all have a great thursday.
    hugs :icon_hug:

Off to bed soon. It's raining, and I'm sure that's the cold front coming through brining us cold weather for the next few days on into the weekend.

    Have a great day!

Good Morning - here at work again. Already two patients in the ER which matches yesterdays total that took all day to achieve.

I actually got to bed at 5:30 p.m. yesterday - amazing.

Reading a new book called "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller. He is, as a reviewer called him, the Anne Lamott with testosterone. If you've ever read "Traveling Mercies" by Anne Lamott and loved it, you will love this book too.

We are doing chart reviews in the ER for awhile - such fun. I'm actually finished with last shift's charts though.

    Ok - where's the coffee?

Good morning... I need some coffee myself.

I'm in a slump since my grandfather passed away. We weren't really that close, but since then I just haven't felt motivated. Don't seem to have the energy or drive to put my best into my assignments or get to class. I'm missing lecture at the moment - although I'm not TOO heart-broken about it. Our peds instructor simply reads to us right out of the book, I figure I could do that much myself at home. I'll drive over to school (70 miles) this afternoon for the Impaired Cognition lecture. So early in the semester, and I'm already burned out.

We had that nasty rain yesterday, Tweety... now we're in the midst of another cold snap. Glad the rain is over, though - something about stormy days makes me want to sleep!
