Good Sunday Morning 06 June 2004

  1. Good morning to all of you early risers and to those of you who haven't been to sleep yet......................

Having a lazy afternoon over here. Students are actually watching a movie right now and I had my wonderful jazz brunch again today. Never miss it if I am here.

What is everyone else doing today?

    Lovely Evening to you too!!!

Today I got out and helped clean up the garden - I have a unit that is one of a "six pack" 6 units/apartments in the block and we are lucky in that 5/6 are "owner/occupiers" so we do our own books, manage our own body corporate and pitch in to keep the garden nice.

Now that was the boring bit - saw my parents off to Norfolk Island - don't know if you have heard the news about Norfolk - there has actually been a murder enquiry going on there - first murder in 150 years - figured with that record it has to be pretty safe.

Went out to the "Medieval Faire" jousting, battles, jesters and that was just in among the kids waiting for the rides lol!!!

Took some pictures of the Faire and I will post them along with my holiday photos after I get them processed.

Good morning! I'm up bright and early but my body is still in another time zone. I stll an't get over how cool the mornings are. Had some awesome Indian food last night and turned in early. I only have this internet until noon and I won't renew because it is too slow and the keyboard can't keep up with my fast typing.

Morning everyone! I just loved that guy, so he is greeting everyone this morning! LOL! Suzanne...you have class on Sunday too there? Do you have it seven days a week or how does that work?

Gwenith...the Medeivel Faire sounds wonderful! I so wish we had more of those around here. I can't wait to see the pics.

Tweety....good to see you...when are you going to be back home? How are things going on your mini-vaca? That computer you got through the hotel sounds like my one at home (it's sooo old!).

Jnette...how about we help each other get back on the workout routine? I could really use the arse kicking from you! I wish I would have stayed around last night. We could've had some serious fun on here, but I just wouldn't have made it! LOL!

Leslie...let me know how you like your PDA! I am getting one before school starts.

Hey Kate....I wanted to know everything Leslie asked tooo!!!!! share?

I didn't go right to bed last night as I had planned, though I was asleep by 9:15 which is about the earliest I could ever hope for. Bryce had to have a bath, dishes had to be done, and I had to get the other two in bed and go get bread. It wasn't so bad! LOL! I do feel a little better this morning though I am not sure what's going on with Bryce and would like some opinions. Here it is:

He slept through the night, in his crib for four nights. He was doing great! And now the last couple of nights he is waking up hungry at least twice. He is eating up to six jars of baby food during the day plus four or five bottles and oatmeal cereal in the am. What's going on? Is this a HUGE growth spurt do you think? I hope it ends soon, if so!

NO plans again today. I do have some things that it is imperative I look up on the computer and I need to check my bank account, but other than that....nothing! Not even laundry today! woohoo! So, I guess you guys are stuck with me today. I do have a question of the day.....is anyone planning any special vacations or trips this summer? What? Nothing here other than day trips around the area to take the kids places.

    Have a good one ya'll!

We used to have a thread last spring which was REALLY motivating as far as workouts... we'd check in every morning and share what we did for our workouts, or were getting ready to do. It was our "workout thread", and if someone didn't check in, it was like "AHA!!!" "They're slackin' off "! And we'd get on their case. Give 'em that arse kickin' they needed to get back at it.

I thought I was going to stay up late and play, too.. but suddenly everyone but Fran and I were gone.. I figured they must all have been cooking supper or out having a night on the town, so I went on to bed early, too... like 8 pm. Still light out. And I was GONE, baby ! Slept 'til 0700 this morning, too! I must have needed it.

Well, once this cool fog burns off, I'm going to get out in the garden and sun.. get some color on these white legs of mine.

Have to do some three month careplans for work, too... I prefer to do them here at home instead of staying over at work or going in on my day off. :stone

Well, other than that, just another fine day off.

Jnette...I'm gonna go find the exercise thread I started and get it going. If it kills me, I'll do at least a 20 minute workout this morning! I wonder why that other thread you spoke of died out? Everyone give uP? LOL

We are essentially open seven days a week to make it easy on my students since some of them are still working and they have absolutely insane schedules. If they tried what they do here in the US, there would be no nurses working. That I can guarantee. The flip flop shifts back and forth, many times with no more than a few hours off between 8 hour shifts....and they do this several times in a row...such as work mns on Monday, then pms on Tuesday, then days on Wednesday. They are salaried so they are there until charting is finished, etc. No overtime like we are used to. Depending on whether they work for the government, which most of the nurses here do, they are required to work 22 shifts per month. If they do work over that, they will get paid for the extra shifts at about $12 for the shift.....however if they get a low census day, happens rarely, then they would lose the overtime for that day. Payday is once per month.

    This is Thailand....................

Dunno....... it went well, for about 3 months.. then summer kicked in, and I guess ppl got busy doing other things and it fizzled out.

Oh man, Suzanne...it's so different there. I just love hearing about it but it sounds so tough on them. And here we all sit complaining much of the time about our lives.

Jnette...I envy you the nice weather...it's been crummy here. How are your temps? It's so cool here and damp that I don't even want to take the kids out to the park. I hope this isn't a repeat of last summer!

WOW !!! Really, Suzanne ! That IS tough ! No wonder so many want to come here to work. All things are relative, right?

That is how they have always done things here and when I ask why? "That is just the way it always been done." Slowly, I want to make a difference and see if they can see it my way and make it easier on the nurses. Actually I think it happens so that the nurse is unable to further themselves and get more education than their manager. Only the ones that are really motivated succeed. I have one student that lives in another province outside of Bangkok, worked 24 hours straight in an ICU, finished at 8 am yesterday, the nleft to come to school, got stuck in traffic and it took her 4 hours, usually about 90 minutes. I have a room with couches at the school, so she stayed there last night, was in class today, will stay tomorrow until about 2 pm, then leave to go back to work a 12 hour shift at 7 pm. Trying to get her to quit her job there and come in work in BKK someplace close to school.
