Good Sunday Morning, Dec. 18th!!!

  1. It's early yet but I am rarin' to go this morning... it's not quite breakfast time but how bout some Coke and cookies, a little ice cream, and all that jazz to get through the late night/early morning hours?? That's all I could stomach right now.

Good morning to everyone who comes by later on... No big plans for today, except to get some sleep (maybe) :chuckle, head out to church and later finish up shopping... And, do some cleaning, I suppose Can you believe it's just a week till Christmas?? This year I thought, I won't get near as excited about Christmas as usual, now I'm all moved out and on my own... nope, now that it's close, I am just as excited as usual! Especially since I have 3 nights off after working Christmas Eve night... I'm going HOME! I feel really lucky to have this schedule as a newbie but I'm not complaining... actually switched with someone else for their preference of a different night, so it worked out nicely..

Anyhow that's enough for me right now... but I hope all of you are having okay days, stay warm!! Take care, enjoy the lovely snacks

[font=book antiqua]good morning rayrae, i dont think that i have spoken to you before, its 3am where i am and the night has been busy so far, they have just taken a patient to the or but they havent called for a bed, so hopefully they are going to icu and not to us.
[font=book antiqua]i only ever have plans to sleep on the weekends when i am working. only one more night to go before a couple of nights off. its surprising how quickly the time goes, and then i have 5 nights off over xmas.
[font=book antiqua]i dont think that i am in the mood for cookies and coke right now, but will catch some later.

hi Cariad, it's nice to meet you!! I am more of a lurker than a poster usually... I hope the rest of your night is as uneventful as possible!! I am like you I usually just sleep when I have to work many shifts in a row along with the day after them all, so I hope you get a good day's sleep in then and later enjoy your break over Christmas!

just to introduce myself, I'm a relatively new nurse, started working on a peds general medical floor in June. I am 22 years old and live in eastern Tennessee. Right now, live by myself though I'm considering getting some kind of pet... maybe rabbit or fish, something quiet not to disturb my neighbors, the walls of this apartment building are kind of thin . Oh one more thing, in case you couldn't tell I have a major tendency to ramble when I DO post... :imbar

    Take care!!

    Good Morning, Friends

Well, I'm at work again. It's about 0245 here & so far this has been a quiet nite. I don't want to say that too loudly!! Our entire computer system is down tonite, so it's back to paper charting!! Not fun!! I'm up for 1st admit, but none so far. The floor is actually pretty full. I did have blood again tonite, but that is finished. Lots of IVPB meds, tho.

Not much planned for the AM, either. Maybe DH & I will catch up on some tapes.

Monday I need to finish mt shopping----REALLY!!

Rayrae--Nice to meet you!! Do you work days or nites?
I work nites & have done si for about the last 30 yrs. They really couldn't pay me enough to go back to day shift!! The noise alone would kill me!!
    I guess I'm a Grumpy old lady!! I work a med/surg/oncology unit.

Cariad-- Hooe your nite goes well!!

I guess I'll leave some food for the rest of the folks

    Fresh hot coffee, decaff, tea
    blueberry and/or cranberry muffins
    strawberries, melon slices and mango

    Hope you all enjoy!!

Wishing everyone before & after me a Great Sunday

hi mary anne glad to hear that you are having a q----t night......no we wont say that q word.
we had only 15 patients one in the or and 3 to come from the er, but the ones that the day shift had admitted just before we arrived still had to have loads of the admission stuff to chart in the computer, so it has been like having 2 admits for each of us. its a surgical floor, just 21 beds, i charge on my shift and i have 2 good lpns with me, we work well together. its the only surgical beds on the island so we get everything, gynae, ortho, ent, step down from the icu and so the list goes on.
going to blast the xmas cd in a minute to make sure that we are all awake!

    Hi Cariad

Presently we are a 34 bed bed unit. There are 5 RN's tonite, 2 CNA's & 1 clerk. That's good staffing for us. So far, no admits---very unusual--we usually average 2-3 per nite (2300-0730). I do 8 hr. shifts. We also do have some that do 12's.

Within the next week, we are going to have some changes. Half of our unit will close--we will have 18 beds for about 9 months. They are going to remodel half the unit, then do the other half. Right now we are med/surg/Oncology. When this stuff starts, we will keep mainly the hem/onc here. We will keep the staff who is hem/onc trained. The others will go to another unit where the other med/surg pt's will be.

I hope this will work out. They are supposed to be starting to limit admissions any time now.

Well, a little more then an hour left--wow--2 nites in a row that were not bad.
Our Computer has been down all shift, tho, so everything is on paper tonite.

    Well, see you all later.

    Hi Rae, Anna, Mary, cariad,

Here is it 4:20 a.m. and I'M NOT AT WORK AND I'M AWAKE.

Sorry for shouting - I went to bed at 9 and woke at midnight for some reason. Came out to use the BR and saw that my oldest son was watching a movie. Sat up with him until 3. Tried to go back to sleep - no luck.

On ob call which started at 3 a.m. sheesh.

Anna - I have not done one iota of shopping yet. Typical of me.

Mary, glad your staffing is good tonight. cariad - blast away with the music - I'm already awake. Rae - pet rats are quiet - you could have my dd's rat, the one that escapes all the time.

Well, I just ate a banana and drank some non-fat milk - you know that old wive's tale about a banana and milk making you sleepy.

Church doesn't start until 10 a.m. so maybe I can get a bit of rest. If the phone doesn't ring.

Happy Sunday - one week to Christmas . .. . yikes.

    Good morning, everyone!

I just realized I always start my morning posts with that line. I'll have to get creative.

I've been up a while. Got the puppy outside for a bit-in my bathrobe and slippers, thankfully none of the neighbors were up. Got two loads of laundry done. I haven't put the laundry away yet because nobody else is up, even though it's almost 8. Got a little kitchen straightening up done, all that little stuff.

DD babysat until 1 am, so it will be a while before she's awake.

Rayrae, I think I'll just stick with my tea and an orange for now, thanks.

MaryAnn, your night should be over now. I hope it went well. I won't say that word, either.

Cariad, go ahead and crank that Chrismas music. I want to hear it.

Silver, I'm still waiting for some of our Christmas gifts to arrive. I hope they make it in time. Fortunately everybody's old enough to suck it up if they don't. Otherwise all the wrapping is done.

Sue, you think you're jinxing the thread by starting it? LOL. You think like me.

Steph, I hope you've getting some sleep. Don't know if you're expecting any babies anytime soon, but you never know.

    Have a great day, everyone.

    ~Kat
PS-I think I end my posts the same way, too. I really need to put my creativity cap on.

    Good morning everyone!

Good morning Steph. With those odd hours you work, it's no wonder you have trouble sleeping like a normal person.

I tossed and turned myself for some reason.

It's cool and cloudy. No sunshine predicted today.

I'm off to yoga class here soon.

    Have a great day.
