How about BSN as the minimum level of education for new nurses? It's taken up PAGES here!

Pros and cons of unionization is another hot button topic here. Or floating (asking nurses to take patient assignments on other floors or units they may not feel comfortable on)! What topics have you thought of but not liked?

WELL, I kinda need a topic that I know something about.

I've thought of funny ones like why you should care for your personal hygene........I've tried to find something I feel strongly aobut..........but I cant........

Allowing new grads into specialty areas... Or the dress code (It always bugged me when I was a student!)... Or the stupidity of APA and essay writing for nursing students rather than more clinical!... (Can you tell what I didn't like in school?)

what area of nursing are you interested in? Is there anything in there that you don't agree with? I always found it easiest to ask my friends what I complain about the most and there was my topic for my next essay...

How about "The Nursing shortage in America and how debate class is contributing to it"?

Thinking back to nursing school, the topic "Group projects suck" comes screaming to the fore .

The thread on the advantages or lack of being a nurses' aide before becoming a nurse was an interesting one.

Kristi......I didn't know you wanted nursing ideas??? You didn't really say what topic you were looking for from us, so that's why I suggested you talk about your faith since you say you are passionate about it.

How about some ideas of what type of topics you would prefer, then maybe I can offer more for you. Nighty night....sleep tight...don't let the dustmites bite! :kiss

I had to do this type of work for a school project in my masters program and aced it...........I did one on provegetarian vs meat eating diets. Talking about enviornmental issues, farming, supply of foods. My project consisted of 5 essasys on the subject. I enjoyed it but I am a vegetarian. I just needed to research the subject to get some facts to present.

I would definately pick something that you feel passionate about.

I did something in philosophy with a group, "Should Teens be tried as Adults in our court system".. we had to split up and argue pro and con.. okay so it's not something I would have picked but was outnumbered by criminal justice students in my group.. it was really interesting and I learned alot

What is the minimum level of health care that should be univerally provided?

Should there be physician assisted suicide?

pro's and con's of childhood vaccinations.

    Should marijuana be legalized?

Should parental consent be required for abortions performed on underage teens?

Is public health underfunded in America?

Do reimbursement schedules favor technologies and the sub-specialities over primary care docs? How does this impact American health care?

What will happen when reduced medicare reimbursement creates a huge insured population that is unable to access basic health care/a medical home?

And, of course, abortion and the usual "hot button" issues.

Should our government dicate contraceptive policy to other countries, particularly those with severe over-population problems by tying financial aid to the presence or absence of contraceptive programs?

    Should we legislate health behavior?

Don't stick with the hot issues unless you're passionate about them--and up for a LONG heated debate. Plenty of ideas here though. I did a speech on the vegetarian diet, convinced three people in my speech class to kick the meat habit. Good luck, and let us know what you decide!
