Good Morning Sunday April 3, 2005

  1. Hi - hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

We just finished watching Nickelodeon's Kid Choice Award Show . . . and no, not because we were interested but because my oldest son, the 22 year old, who is in So. Cal, somehow came upon tickets.

So, of course we had to watch to catch a glimpse of him. He sat behind Hillary Duff, so when she won her award I got to see him standing there clapping. Also saw him from the back quite a bit - he and his friends were six rows back from the stage in the middle section on the right. So funny to sit here and realize he had been there. They taped it for the west coast this afternoon but it was live on the east coast. I kept calling him on his cell phone - they were stuck in traffic on the freeway. He was all stuffed up - the confetti that fell from the ceiling gave him allergies. He said Justin Timberlake looked stoned.

It was just too weird - he was in the same room as Haley Berry!!!!!!

Off to watch "Shall We Dance" now . ..

    Good morning.

Let me know how you like that movie Steph, I've been considering getting it. I've been waiting for it to go off of two-day rental at Blockbusters, as I only rent 7 day rentals. But first on my list is "Ray".

Off to work and I can definately feel that I've lost that hour of sleep. But I'm sure it's all in my head.

    Hi everyone.

I started my preceptorship Fri. night. I'm on the night shift, 7p - 7a. I have a wonderful preceptor! She used to be an educator and so far she's great, I think I'm going to learn a lot. So the first night went well in that regard.

As far as the night shift goes, I thought it would be no problem at all. I'm a total nightowl, I can stay up until 5-6 am, no problem. I slept all day Fri., woke up about 4:30, then went in at 7. At about 1 am, I was so tired! I ate my lunch and just wanted to find a corner and curl up and sleep. I don't know what was wrong with me. 1 am is early for me, I never want to go to bed that early. It could have been because we were so slow. We only had 1 baby. 2 nurses there and me .... and just 1 patient. So maybe the boredom just made me tired.

Then I came home and slept like a baby, slept all day today. Had tonight off, then I go back in tomorrow at 7 pm. I started crying about it earlier and I don't really know why I mean my first day went just fine. But I just dread being that tired again and just sitting there looking at the clock. The experience is great, it's just that I feel so overwhelmed and intimidated by a lot of it. I know it'll get better with time but I just hate feeling like this. And I hate crying about it on my day off

Thank you for letting me come here and vent. No one else understands me and why I feel like this. Thanks for listening.

    Buenos Dias,

It's been awhile since I've posted here.

Hope everyone has a blessed Sunday. Going to work out, eat breakfast and go to church.

Start a new job tommorow. Excited about that.

StepH: Did Justin really look stoned? My daughter doesn't really care for him, thank God. She also says that award show is no longer for kids. All these 30 and 40 something artists have hijacked the show. It's no longer about the kids ....

Anyway, Raindreamer, Tweety and everyone else have a great day.

    Good Morning, Folks !

DH is making breakfast.. bacon, eggs and hashbrowns. Shall I ask him to throw on extra for you guys out there?

Steph.. have no idea who and what you're talking about with these ppl, I am SO out of the loop when it comes to stuff like that, and actually prefer it that way. But glad you enjoyed !

Rain.. your emotional adrenalin is working overtime right now.. all these feelings are quite natural.. so much going on.. don't hesitate to come here and let it all out. So glad you like your preceptor.. makes all the difference in the world !

Hey there Joanne ! Don't be a stranger... enjoy your Sunday ! :Melody:

Good morning............definitely feel like I m missing an hour of sleep, especially with the one clock that I didn't change saying 4:58 AM.

And this being my 5th twelve in a row...........and of course a new assignment today, both of my kids were extubated in the last day or two, and have transfer orders to the floor. Will probably be moved by the time that I get in..........hate when that happens for me, but it is great for them, that they have improved so much.............

Ying has her exam on Friday, Ead is taking hers on Thursday in LA (another students of mine) and Tina is taking hers tomorrow in London.

    Wish them all luck.......................

My husband and I noticed that . . .I kept thinking there were all these little kids in the audience and here were the adults like (blech) Justin Timberlake (yes, he was either stoned or sick with a cold) . ... all the songs were rap songs, it was weird. Lots of older folks too - in movies little kids shouldn't be seeing.

Tweety - I thought the movie was a sweet story. Not the greatest movie but still worth seeing.

Jnette - I only enjoyed it because I was looking for my son - which was why I kept calling him on his cell phone "Where are you in the crowd?" . . "what color is your shirt?" . . . .

You know, Will Smith was the only one who really seemed to be there for the kids and gave a nice pep talk to the kids about the two most important things are "running and reading". Running because if you learn to run you learn perserverance and dedication and the ability to do something even when it is hard and painful and Reading because it is how you open your mind to the world of ideas . . . I'm paraphrasing - he was more eloquent.

Johnny Depp came on at the end to be the celebrity who got slimed but it ended up being .. .shoot - the guy from the "Meet the Parents" movie . .that Focker guy . . . arrggghhh . . . you know.

    I need more coffee.

    good morning

    happy weekend, to all!!
i'ts my weekend off, so all is well with me here.
it's always so much better when we're off, isn't it?

yep, sure do feel the loss of that one hour!

tweety, dh bought that movie for me for my birthday--it was sweet, but i was just a liitle disappointed in it--i think i anticipated more, maybe i wanted more chemistry between the leading players.

    rain-- i think jnette might be right about the adrenalin;
i also think that when you have more to do on shift you'll be feeling better. things might just be a bit overwhelming
right now, also. this is something you've been working for for such a long time. please remember that this is a good place to vent & this is such a good place for you to come for some support when you need it.
we are all here to listen to you & try to give you some help.

hello to everyone else out there--hope you are all having a good weekend--will not name you all today--too lazy!!

    hey rainy,

being overwhelmed/intimidated is sooooo natural- what type of unit are you working on?
and i too, can stay up all noc w/o problems but when i worked the 7p-7a shifts, i too cried.....don't know why but i never adjusted to those hrs. give it a few weeks and see how you feel then. if you find it to be the noc shift hours, request to be put on a list from 7a-7p....sometimes there are people that just cannot adjust to the noc shift. good luck sweetie. :icon_hug:

    Hi Everyone!

I haven't posted on the GM threads in a while, so I thought I'd better put my 2 cents worth in here instead of the Current Events forum......too exhausting, and I don't feel particularly well today. :stone I came down with a 'hot' throat, fever, and chest discomfort Friday........all the hallmarks of a wicked attack of bronchitis. However, I seem to be fighting it off this time (HURRAY for vitamins!!) as I haven't gotten any worse, and while I'm not up to my usual energy level, at least I'm not sick in bed like I was the last few times I caught something.

    Have a great day, y'all!!

Mary - I thought the dance between Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez all alone in a dark studio was very seductive and hot. :Melody:

Marla - sorry you are getting sick. It is cloudy and slightly rainy here but after church I took my son and his friend out to the playground to play - the sun came out in patches and then went behind the clouds again.

Glad for a nice fire here in the house.

'Bout TIME you popped in here again ! Sheeesh.

Do keep taking those vitamins, and get plenty of REST... dang.. you don't need this on top of another round of kidney stones as well ! Poor baby.

Hope you take a turn for the better ! (((HUGS)))

    Marla, don't get sick!

JoAnne, good luck on the new job.

Rain, definately sounds like inaction got the best of you. Hope it goes better.

I started off with 8 patients, without the potential for a discharge and ran my butt off. At 3p we got another nurse and I had 6 for the last four hours. As we used to say back in North Carolina, "I'm plum tuckered out" (heavy on the southern accent )

Got another of those marathon chemistry exams coming up tomorrow. I can start on it tonight, but I'm so stupid right now, I'd better not.
