Good morning Sat. Sept. 2nd 2006

  1. Still can't believe it's Sept already. Good Grief! It's after MN here in FL so I thought I'd start things going today. Wish it was Grace doing the honors. Like the Coke commercial, "Things go better with..." GRACE. I thought she was only giving up this job for a week. She's AWOL! Sleepin' on the job!

    GRACE, WHERE ARE YOU?

I'm going nighty night 'cause I've got to get up at 6am for work. Hopefully I can get back to play, after work. TTFN

Good morning to dianah, bethin, jmgrn65 and siri. Thanks to Marilyn for getting this thread off to a glorious start, and good morning to everyone out there.

I am planning to work 16-hour double shifts today and tomorrow and, hopefully, will be able to read my college textbooks during slow times or downtime. I am crossing my fingers with the hopes that my shifts will be uneventful. Lord, please give me the strength to ignore any rude remarks and conduct myself with professionalism.

    Mornin' y'all!

DH had to go in today for a few hours, and I woke up while he was getting ready. So, got some coffee, and "gonna" study.

Of course, there's probably going to be a nap coming on pretty soon. haha

    Y'all have a great day!

    Morning, All:
Have been up since 4:00, considering my career options after being discarded by yet another temp agency last week. I've come to the conclusion that I am simply burned out after 36 years in this profession and need a change. The sooner I realize my limitations, the better off I will be. And I took the first step this morning by applying to take the Postal Carriers Exam. If the U.S. Postal Service doesn't want me, then I'll find something else.

Not admitting defeat here. It's just time to move on.

    Ya'll have a great weekend!

    Morning Peeps!

Well, a nippy 57 degrees out there. Coffee's on, and I'm going to yump into some jeans shortly and head out to do an admit. I'm off the weekend, but volunteered to do this admit. He's the hubby of one of my pts., whom he tearfully had to place in a NH a week ago after he found out he had a very VERY bad heart valve and his doc scheduled him for ASAP open heart surgery. All this came out of the blue for him, and he was in a whirlwind of decision-making. Poor guy. I was worried about him with this surgery as I know how worried he was about his little wife... putting her in a NH about broke his heart.

But he made it, and now I'm going out to admit him to HH this am.

Hey.. remember last weekend when I was wishing I had an extra day off? Well, I found out yesterday that I'm not scheduled to work this Monday as it's Labor Day, and I had worked the previous 2 holidays! Wooot! So what did I do? Volunteered to work it anyway, since I had already just ASSUMED that I WAS !

But I told them to give me a "light" load that day... 4-5 patients. That will be do-able.

Well, haven't read yesterday's thread yet, heard anything from ROY ???

We didn't get near the rain and wind they said we would initially.. it stayed east of us, and Adam got it ALL !!! He said parts of Norfolk and Va. Beach were up to their knees in water and he saw several SUVs in some underpasses that were totally submerged with only the roof racks peeping out... :uhoh21: He was fortunate in not losing power.. hundreds of thousands all around him did.

OK.. better go have some coffee. NOW.

Case, good luck. Post offices can be hard to get into. My father got in due to his veteran status and turned it down because they could only offer him a job in another town. But it might be easier where you are, the veteran preference was tough because we lived in a military town. Sorry to hear you're so down on nursing, but understand.

Jnette, enjoy the weekend and the light load on Monday.

I'm just doing the usual school work and housework. I've neglected the housework the last few days so it's time to spit shine the place before going back to work next week....which actually won't be until Thursday...the joys of 12-hour shifts.

Geeze Tweety...when DO you work? :chuckle I guess we'll be seeing a new countdown for your next vacation soon? HAHAHA

Actually, it's nice to be able to have time off, and not have every M-F 8-5 consumed by work. You can actually get things done that must be taken care of during the week.

OK.....back to studying. I just did a MedsPub practice. I answered 25 questions, and got only 2 wrong. Not bad for only one week of nursing school, huh?

Good morning everyone! Would liked to have slept a little bit longer but couldn't so I'm up having my 1st cup of coffee. Before I know it, it will be time to go to work....day 2 or 3.

Last night was very trying. Very busy with a lot going on. 1st time I got to pee was about 1-1/2 hrs before end of shift. (more info than you needed to know, right?) Lots of grumblings going on on the floor about mgmt & staffing (we have a temp manager who's a travel nurse and ppl are praying her contract will not be renewed).....have to agree with them. Needed some assistance here and there with pts, fell a bit behind...not in the meds (which I seemed to be giving all night!!) but in writing my assessment sheets so the charge nurse jumped in and helped me out. She's a grad of my school from 3 years ago and just wonderful.
One thing I neglected to do was turn the Gomco suction machine back on on a patient who had gone for some tests. should have turned it back on when he returned but.....bad bad bad suzy!!! No harm done but I'm kicking myself about it. This guy was the most intense pt yesterday, had surgery recently with mets to the lymph nodes in the stomach, liver, mesentary (sp?), was getting blood, chart went missing (left downstairs) so we had a delay in hanging the 2nd unit of blood...and couldn't even figure out if this was the 1st unit or the 2nd unit running b/c no one mentioned it in report.

I must get myself better organized somehow. I have my assessment sheets but don't always get to write important info like a high BP or low BP on them and then rush around trying to remember stuff at end of shift.
Yep....I'm feeling a bit like a jerk right now.

Yep. When I get back I'm putting in for my next vacation in March, because the early bird get's the vacation approved first. And yes, it's going on my countdown. LOL

Actually my vacation ends on Sunday night technically, but as I said, the joys of 12-hour shifts, I don't go back until Thursday! Don't hate.
