mgallant.......so sorry about what happened to your student!!
How sad for everyone involved.
Tweety.....day shift IS pretty overwhelming at times, isn't it? Sometimes I think it's twice as much work as nights.......seems like we get all the orders, surgeries, docs, families, 'suits', admissions, discharges etc. and then we earn less pay than the other shifts. However, at least we have something of a LIFE, so there's something to be said for that; besides, I personally stopped being able to handle nights once I got past 40, so for me there's really no other shift. I did love the 3-11 shift, but it no longer exists at my hospital.......since last September, there have been two 11A-7P "specialists" (one of whom is moi
) who float from 11-3 doing admissions, post-ops, charge, etc. (sometimes in three or four different departments!) and then usually take a team from when the 7A-3P day shift goes home. It's busy, and sometimes when I come home at night I think "Oh man, I'm getting too old for this!!" But I've got the perfect schedule: Mon-Tues. on, Weds. off, Th-Fri. on, and all weekends off........so who's complaining? :chuckle
I feel considerably better today......no more fever, and my asthma is beginning to simmer down a bit thanks to Q 4 hour nebulizer tx at home. Thank God for this machine........it was purchased for my youngest child when he was a baby to minimize hospitalizations for asthma exacerbations, only HE hasn't used the thing in years, while his father and I have needed it more times than we can count. At least I'm pretty sure I'll make it to work tomorrow, which is the important thing!
Steph......good thing you were there when that mom walked in! I wish you could be there for my daughter when she has her baby......some of the nurses on the OB floor where I work leave something to be desired, and I know she'd be in good hands with you.
Today is actually pretty warm here in Western Oregon.......it's cloudy, but dry and very pleasant outside. I would like some sunshine though! Seems our seasons are bass-ackwards this year.......it was dry and warm from January through mid-March, and now it's cold and rainy most of the time. I know we need it, otherwise our electric and water bills will be sky-high this summer.....but dang, I'd love a couple of days like we had back in February when it was 72 (!) degrees and sunny.......I could actually get started on a tan.......yeah, yeah, I know it's not good for me, but I just HATE looking all pale and washed out like I do in the winter!!
