Heidy-Ho, cyber-neighbors! Five posts already and it's 11:50pm here!!
Had a good time at Disneyland, just took things easy. They took the Fast Pass machines out from in front of Pirates ride. We talked with the gal at the Information booth in the main Plaza and asked WHEN D'land was going to get Fast Pass for the Matterhorn???? She said she hadn't heard they were considering it, as they'd have to completely re-design the queue area to accommodate two lines each side. The park did put out large umbrellas for the Miner 49'ers group that plays in front of the Grizzley River Raft ride in California Adventure, which was a GOOD thing! Last time we were there, there was NO shade, and even though the temp was only in the 70's, it seemed to be concentrated on that little patio area, and the musicians looked SO uncomfortable! So, I don't know if it helped or not, I wrote an email to D'land -- started w/compliments and ended with a few suggestions, one of which was to shade, if not the whole area, the musicians at least.
Perhaps others wrote too, or the musicians themselves requested the shade. It's a bluegrass band, and dh ALWAYS has to go hear them. They're all very talented musicians as well as seasoned entertainers (much the same as the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies show at the Golden Horseshoe -- ALWAYS good!). But, it was a beautiful day, with blue skies and wispy clouds . . not TOO, too crowded, either, although dh and I only went on one ride. Just not in a ride mood today. But hey, I'm going to take the kids next Monday the 24th -- meet us there!! PM me and I'll give you my cell number! Just drive in for the day, ya know?? No worries, eh??
We talked with one of the cast members about the Sleeping Beauty Castle facelift. They changed the stones' appearance from a smooth stone to a rougher-textured one, with sparkles (like some granites). It's light pink in the upper sections, with the light colored stones below; actually, in the night lights the stones take on a pink hue, too. The turrets each have a blue shake roof and a gold spire -- and for each tower that has a "balcony" area, the spire is topped with a crown: there are five in all, one for each of the princesses in the Disney movies/stories. And, one turret always remains "unfinished," per Walt's original vision, that of the park always changing, that creativity keeps, well, creating new things for the park! It's always interesting to talk with the cast members, many of whom aren't the jaded souls one would imagine (having to deal with as many of the public as they do) -- but are folk who are very pleased to be working at/for Disney, and seem to enjoy interacting. This is not only the clerks, who MUST deal with the public, but the maintenance staff - custodial, if you will -- and the people who "man" the kiosks that sell food/drink and/or souvenirs.
Sadly, all the Christmas decorations are gone, but the flowers were BEAUTIFULLL!! When we entered the park the planters fairly shouted to us, with a profusion of yellow daffodils and red-and-white tulips, bedded amongst miniature pansies (what are they called????), and protected from crowds by a moat of dichondra behind a low wrought iron fence. Very pleasant
, good for the eyes and the soul.
And then my non-thinking kids actually went on the River Raft ride just about 9:00 p.m., when California Adventure closed, so when we met them at 9:30 for a check-in, they were pretty wet. So we decided to leave. It'll be nice having the day off tomorrow, to finish chores and rest up for the week.
My PDA should arrive Tuesday!!! I'll then be trying to learn it, load it and download it! Yikes, and my mentor is in Wisconsin for inservice all week! Guess I just read the book and stumble around on my own for awhile . . . he did tell me it's not as complicated as a computer, that everything is just "there." We'll see. I'm a little more intuitive about computers than some people but I lack serious experience with set-up, so we'll see . . .
Off to bed, and to finish my murder mystery. Yes, I did take it with me and even parked my hiney a few times to read a little, and to people-watch. Nice and restful. Really!
