Good Monday Morning 04/18/05

  1. Had the perfect day on Sunday, never left the house..............sat on the terrace and read all day and played on the computer.

Made the cheesecake pudding and put fresh strawberries all over the top. Ying actually finished it..............not a crumb left for me..

Hope that the weather stays like this forever, not a cloud in the sky and sipping ice tea......

One more day off, then back for another 4. But these off so far have just been perfect.

    Have a good week..................... :Melody:

Good Morning - today was sunny and windy; I called my son in So. Cal and he answered his phone from Huntington Beach where he and his friends were laying in the warm sand taking naps. I'm jealous

Yesterday my husband had his annual DMV physical and found out he has adult onset diabetes. I've been telling him for months that I think he had diabetes . . he drinks orange juice, a quart an hour and pees every hour. Also has the tummy that is indicative of diabetes and heart disease. So, yesterday we bought the glucometer and I gave him lessons. We started jogging. We started the South Beach Diet - which has way less carbs than the diet given to him by the doc. But not as stringent as Atkins or as high fat.

Lots of learning to do . . . I'm fully aware of all there is to know about diabetes but it is different when you come at it as a patient or family member.

Other than that - we've had a nice weekend.

I'm still on call for OB - until 3 a.m. Better try to get some sleep. Just in case.

Good morning. My turn to wake up with a wicked headache. Yikes. Was too tired to cook last night and ate shrimp lo mein and a Snickers bar.

I have a Chemistry exam today and then I'm done with my first semester of my RN to BSN program! Only two more years and over a dozen more courses to go!

Steph, sorry to hear about your hubby. A quart of OJ and hour??? I think the SBD is an excellent diet for him, and I'm confident if he follows that and exercises, he'll loose weight and had have excellent glucose control. (Speaking of, I loaned out my book and haven't got it back, hmmm....but I still have the cookbook and the handy little "what you can eat" book.) I need to go back on it myself, I way too hooked on carbs again.

    Hi everyone

Suzanne, that cheesecake pudding with strawberries sounds just yummy!!

steph, sorry to hear about your DH, but it sounds like with your help he'll be able to manage it just fine. Laying in the warm sand and napping sounds nice! That's where I wanna be too!

Tweety, waking up with a headache, that's no good .... I hope it goes away soon. Good luck on your chem exam!! Bet it feels good to have a semester almost behind you, huh? Are you taking courses this summer? Or do you get some time off in between?

I'm about to head to bed. Been doing my preceptorship on the night shift, so I've just been staying on that schedule on my days off. It works out ok, I just stay up all night and sleep all day lol. I've had a fun weekend, just been hanging out with friends, watching movies and all. This is the first weekend I've actually not had to do any studying or anything!! It's felt great. Last week on my days off I had to spend most of them studying for the ERI exam ..... that's the exam (kinda like HESI) that we have to pass or else we fail the course and don't graduate. We had to get a 65 on the 1st attempt .... I got a 60. I went in, nervous as hell, last Fri. to take it for the 2nd time. I got a 67!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even tell yall how happy I was to see that. I walked out of that room just happy as can be and sang all through the parking lot on the way to my car. WHEW, talk about a weight off my shoulders. Now I am FOR SURE graduating in just 19 days!! I have 6 days left of preceptorship .... 3 this week, 3 next week. Then I've got the pinning ceremony, graduation, pack my stuff up and head back to AZ

I hope yall that have to work today got a great night of sleep and have a great day at work. Those that are about to go to bed, sleep good! I hope you each have a wonderful Monday!

suzanne, sounded like a great day, sincerely.

stevielynn, sorry you were right about your hubby...but, of course, with your help, he will take better care of himself and do better.

tweety, good luck on the chemistry exam. i hated chemistry! but i felt good when i finished and passed it. i felt like i accomplished something i thought i couldn't do. i think it is probably easier for you.

i have a long involved story about how we did not have a closing on the house. the appraisal did not come in at the right price. had to order a second and it came out at the asking price...now we are in limbo waiting for the comparison of the two by the underwriter, etc. @@ wish us luck! after all that work on picking things out and personalizing it (and the houe looks great!), we could still be looking for another house!

Rain, sleep well. Congrats on the exam! I am indeed going through the summer, first we get a two week break. Their semesters are all 16 weeks including the summer. This summer it's Statistics for 8 weeks followed by Nursing Research for the last 8 weeks. They accellerate the courses so you only have to take one course at a time, but it's twice the work as they squeeze 16 weeks of work into 8, but isn't bad taking only one course at a time.

Yes, but mine is low-carb, just sugar-free cheesecake flavored pudding.

Steph, this is something that your husband would probably like and can eat. Sorry to hear about his diagnosis, but at least it is something that can be helped.

Hello again - the sun is shining! It is warm outside but the house is cold so I have started a fire . . . later this afternoon it will be too hot in here. Such is life in Northern CA.

Congrats on the test Rain - I remember having to retake two tests in my nursing program - oh how I hated those "pick the best worst answer" questions. There was even one I completely disagreed on about sexual abuse but I fortunately had brought up the subject in class before the test - just on a whim or something - so the whole class knew what the instructor wanted even though we all thought it was wrong. So we got the answer right - but felt bad about it.

I'm thinking more and more about getting my Bachelor's degree but not in nursing. Simpson College has accelerated programs here locally (well, 70 miles away). My sis-in-law got her teaching degree there. I don't know . . . just thinking.

I think I've lost a few pounds just eating right and jogging this weekend with my husband. My daughter is moaning over what she thinks will be a "diet" for the whole family but really it isn't a diet so much as better food choices. When my husband and I talked over the weekend I was surprised by his symptoms that I didn't know about - he would wake up in the middle of the night absolutely ravenous and get up and eat something . ..this was after a bowl of ice cream and then a bowl of fruit and cottage cheese before bed. I first noticed the increased thirst and polyuria on our trip to So. Cal . .. he would stop every hour to pee and buy oj . . .I told him then "that is very unusual and you could have diabetes". Ah but husbands rarely listen to wives, especially when they are nurses.

Ok - the toddler is running circles around me and crawling under my legs - trying to get my attention. :chuckle

Hope you all have a great day.

Hi there all. Great day here, nice and warm.

Well we have our NLN exam tomorrow. She just sprung it on us today that we would have it tomorrow. I asked some of my classmates if they were gonna study and they said no it doesn't count anyway. Can you believe that?

Had our LAST Pharmacology test today thank goodness!! Have a Nutrition test on Wed. and that will be all of THAT! One more test in Med/Surg and we are finished with that too. Yipeeee!

Tweety good luck on your exam sure you will do great!

Hey there Pres. still studying I suppose??

Raindreamer been thinking about you and the fact that you are sooooo close to graduation! I bet you just can't wait!

Liza so sorry about the house. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Steph sorry to hear about dh. I am sure you will take good care of him.

    Dale good day to you.

DD home today with the hayfever?? Running nose, eyes, sneezing. I just couldn't send her to school, knew she would be miserable all day. Have to get some Claritin for her, all I have in med cabinet is Benadryl. I can just see her trying to stay awake in school taking that.

Well I better go and review for the NLN. See you all later and have a good day!

    Hugs

Hi, I'm home w/sick kid today. I think he could have gone to school (you know how when you wake up you feel worse most of the time, but it improves as you get yourself going/shower/etc?), but I let him stay home. But no video games . (isn't there a mom-devil-smilie???) He may be on the computer, read, rest. He's tolerating it, but has asked me a dozen times for video games. Going thru withdrawal, I suppose.

Yesterday I did most of the errands I meant to (forgot to put gas in the car, but dh takes it during the week, so he can do that.), then rushed over to the parenting workshop. It was actually called "Parenting for Academic Success." Helpful tips. Re-oriented me, I think. Then when I got home, I finished the wash (folding and distribution) and changed the bed sheets. Watched Extreme Makeover, Home Edition; it was a repeat, but I watched anyway.

    Good luck on NLN, lilgirl!

Steph, wow, what an eye-opener! Is dh amenable to upcoming diet and lifestyle changes? Hope this turns out to be a positive thing, from which all your family can benefit.

We're talking about going to Disneyland this Sunday, as always, with a group (sons' friends, their parents, our friends, etc. Bil and his dd too; she's been to Disney World 3-4X, but never to the Anaheim Disney). Anyone want/need anything??? PM me and give me your snail mail addy, and I'll send it off. Figurines, socks, pens, hats, stuffed animals (in all kinds of outfits), etc. Sweatshirts, T-shirt (remember, this is the 50th celebration this year!! I hear the Mickey Mouse ears are gold, to commemorate). And, we'll go other times, too . . .

Overcast today, almost "June gloom," that is common here this time of year.

The last chaperone/teacher meeting before we leave for DC on May 10th (redeye flight) is tonight. I need to start making lists and getting ready (travel-sized containers of hair spray, sunscreen, etc . . and do we have enuf socks?? . . .).

Hi Suzanne (lovely visual, reading on the terrace with the nice, breezy weather), Liza (keeping up with the latest on the housee!), Rain (woot, graduation is SOOOOOOOO close!!), Tweety (one step at a time!), PresC, Chats -----------

    Will check in later.
