Going to try soy milk again

  1. I tried soy milk about a year ago (the plain kind), and about gagged from the taste (even on cereal). I tried searching for the last thread i put on here about soy milk, but i can't find it.

What would you all recommend about trying this again?

I haven't ever tried soy milk, but I do very well with rice milk. There may be several brands, but the one I use is called Rice Dream, and it comes in different flavors, although I always just get the plain. Don't want vanilla or chocolate on my oatmeal. It is really quite OK; I don't think I would want to just drink a glass of it, but on cereal it's just fine.

No, I find it un-refrigerated, in quart cartons in the "health food" section. Dh and the kids LOVE it! It's a nice substitute when the milk runs out and I don't wanna/can't make it to the store.

I really enjoy Silk soy milk, plain. Others I know prefer the vanilla Silk. It IS found in the refrigerated section, next to the milk. I think it has a VERY good flavor, unlike soy milk in years past. Just MHO. Good luck finding it!

Can it be used in recipes and the food turn out the way it's supposed to?

I tried the plain Silk last year, that was what made me gag. I might try the vanilla this time.

Mmmmmmm, don't know about using the rice milk or the soy milk in recipes. You might do an online search for whether they can be used as substitutes in recipes, I'm sure there's info SOMEWHERE. BTW, Dh also likes almond milk, which I've found in the health food section as well.

So, ya don't like the plain Silk?? Too bad; perhaps, as you say, the vanilla will be more palatable for you. --------- --------D

I use Westsoy Unsweetened soy milk in my cereal. It took a while to get used to it over milk, but I like it now. I never drink it plain...yuk.

The store that i go to only carries Silk, but maybe another one will carry different brands.

No at the Albertson's I shop at it's in the section with powdered milk, condensed milk, etc. I also find it at health food stores. You can store it unrefridgerated until you open a carton. Hope you find it.

I'm lucky. I get this brand at the health food store and at Publix grocery.

It's one of the few that cuts back on the added sugar. If added sugar is important, it might be worth it to seek it out as most soy milks are loaded with sugar.

Marie, I share the same experience as you. Not too long ago a friend had me try her SILK vanilla soy milk and I loved it! Nothing like the one before. Buy a little single serving to try it out before you buy the carafé or bottle. (Rice dream is also excellent like the other poster mentioned)
