Getting to know you

  1. Ok, I've been haunting (and loving) this site for several months now. I am slowly but surely getting familiar w/ some of the names. However, I think that it would help me to really get to know some of you if everyone just did a brief ditty about themselves (i.e. married/single, male/female, nursing specialty, family, pets, etc).

So introducing Stacey.......I am a very happily divorced mom of 2 grown daughters and gramma of two wonderful grandbabies (Maddie almost 5 and Jakey almost 4). Originally from Wisconsin but now living in North Carolina. Moved to get away from the cold and snow and ice and sleet and frozen toes and cars that won't start becuz of the cold and...................

I've been a nurse since '93. Spent first 9 yrs of my career working w/ the developmentally disabled and have since been doing hosp nursing. Currently awaiting to start a new job at a new hosp where I will be working CCU after getting the mandatory 6 months exp on telemetry. Up until now, I've worked on med/surg units to regain my skills (and confidence).

So anyone else care to share?

    Nice to meet you Stacey!

Introducing Jessica. I am 23 y/o, happily married (1.5 yrs) and currently finishing my last semester of pre-reqs (Jan. start hopeful).

I have no children yet (awaiting to finish school), but am the proud mother of Melody (toy poodle) and Kiro ( Tuxedo Cat).

I attend school at night/weekends and work 2 part-time jobs. One is a deli and the other for a contruction company.

    What a great idea!

I'm Don. I've been happily partnered to Fred for over 20 years and we are proud parents to Twister-cat, our furbaby (pictured in the avatar and in the gallery). We live in upstate NY, near the western edge of the Finger Lakes. We moved here this summer from south Florida; our families are near here, and I was accepted into a nursing program here that I really wanted to attend. It's only been three weeks, so I'm still just getting my feet wet, but I'm enjoying it.

    I guess that's about it!

Thanks for responding Jessica. Nice to meet you. I do have a question for you though. What was your previous user name on this forum? According to many other threads, this name is different than the one you had been using. Or maybe I am just confused.

I hear you! But... family was a big part of why we came back. My mother is getting older, of course, and I had nieces and nephews that I didn't know. I really wanted to reconnect with them. And, not to take anything away from NC (I lived there as a child, I'm originally from the southern part of VA), it's beautiful here. I like the autumn and winter months (although you are correct about the ice!). What REALLY did it for me was last year's hurricane season. We were hammered by Frances and Jeanne, and I NEVER want to do that again. It was scary. And my part of Florida was very busy, much traffic, huge numbers of people... I guess I'm just a small town boy at heart!

NC is beautiful; I have relatives there, still. What area are you in?

    Mandy!

I had no idea we were neighbors! I'm in Elmira. I'm a student at Arnot Ogden Medical Center School of Nursing; where do you go to school?

My very best friend is originally from Syracuse, although we met in Rochester. Very small world, yes?

And I love what you do for the greyhounds... many blessings to you for that.
