Getting ripped off

  1. Hi All,

I just need to vent a little, I am so sick of getting ripped off by mechanics. The mandatory state inspections are good to catch major things but how do you know if you can trust a mechanic? It seems they nitpick until your bill is sky high. when I took the truck to a different mechanic they said that it did not need the part that the first one said. I am so glad I didn't let him work on the truck. I feel so stupid when it comes to mechanical things and I don't know if I am getting ripped off or not. The first mechanic was going to charge me $140.00 for a part that cost 7.99 !!!!! How does he justify that? I went to the auto shop and bought it myself, they told me where it was located and 4 screws later I had back up lights !!!! ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Sorry, I am babbling, just so mad.

I know what you mean! My "Service engine soon" light came on about 7 months ago. We brought it to a mechanic and he said that some belt and some valve were wearing down and it would be $800.00 to repair!
We brought it to another mechanic and he said it was something else. I am not fixing it. The light doesn't come on anymore anyway!Hahahahahahahah

ya know... all you need to do is put a strip of black electricians tape over the dash where the check engine soon light is and it fixes it.

OK. This is a pet peeve of mine. Every freakin time I get an oil change they tell me I need a Serpentine Belt

It's purdy expensive Turns out it's a $20 part, the rest is all labor.

    And nurses get paid what?

On a side note... back when I smoked, I had gone to get an oil change. I had just bought a carton of cigs, and placed them under my seat for safe keeping. When I got home and went to get them to take them in the house, 3 packs were missing

ooohhhh.... let's see.... It was a little over 2 years... but I added oil prn. Coulda went longer but the motor threw a rod and cracked a head or something like that. OK ... it was a Chevy Chevette and it wasn't an entirely bad thing that it happened.:imbar

My freaky lights are always coming on Right now the service engine light's been on about a month, comes and goes...It was just serviced before it started coming on...sooo, I do believe it's mechanic conspiracy.

Also on the menu is the brake light (that's what was just replaced) and the door ajar light I cannot tell you how many frickin' times I slammed those doors and locked them with no avail til I gave up and let the car win. So now I may never know if my door is ajar...good reason to buckle up I guess :chuckle
