Feeling very sad today

  1. As some of you may have noticed I haven't been around for the past week. My grandfather (the nice one) passed away this past Sunday. His suffering was terrible and long term. He demanded to go home from the hospital on Friday and poof hospice took over (bless you people). With one phone call on Sunday morning the nurse was there. She gave him a dose of morphine and an Ativan and he slept peacefully (finally) until his breathing stopped 6 hours later.
I have an excellent support system in my husband, father, grandfather's wife and her 2 sons who are like brothers to me. However, these past days have been difficult for me as I watch the rest of my immediate family behave disgracefully as they are full of bitterness let go too long and greed. Not to mention that both me and the baby now have a nasty cold that developed on this day after the funeral when one should be recovering from the events of the week and reflecting.
As my friends here at Allnurses I wanted to share the eulogy that I wrote for my grandfather. I had my father read it because I never would have made it through and he wanted to say something as the eldest but couldn't find the words. I worked so hard on it to say what needed to be said without pointing fingers as my intentions were pure.
If you made it this far in my ramble thanks for listening and if any of you nurses affiliated with Ingalls hospital recognize him thank you for all that you did for our family.

What a nice and heartfelt eulogy Chelei. Sorry about the passing of your grandfather, but I am glad he is not longer in pain. I know how it is to miss someone you love but be very glad that they are no longer in pain, my stepfather passed this Easter from cancer. I will have you and your family in my thoughts. I hope you and your DD are feeling better soon. ((Huggs))

    Take care and be safe.

Thank you everyone for your support. I couldn't wait to post because I know I can count on you. This is my second grandparent loss within 6 months. I guess most people with large families start to experience this sometime in thier 30's where we start losing people exponentially. It's all part of that cycle of life thing that I have been pondering more and more these days. Thank you again for your support. I just love this site!
