Feeling Lousy

  1. hi all-
i hope you don't mind a little whining..........
i am feeling sooooooooo lousy and have been for the past week.
i don't remember ever feeling quite the way i feel right now.
last thursday night i started feeling "spacey"...you know, the feeling you get when you're coming down with something.
friday morning i woke up achy with a sore throat and earache. i went to work against my better judgement. it hit me full force when i got home that night.
i spent the weekend on the couch sleeping, all i wanted to do was sleep. by monday my coughing was unreal (productive and frequent which is good i suppose) and i went to the doctor, who gave me a z-pack for bronchitis and an ear infection. (would've gone to the doctor over the weekend....couldn't get an appointment one day, couldn't get off the couch the other).
yesterday i finally started to feel a little better, with the exception of a new symptom, pounding headache and (this is gross, sorry) a horrible taste in the back of my throat that still hasn't stopped......i'm thinking germy drainage....ugh.
last night out of nowhere i had to run to the bathroom, feeling i was going to be sick, and spent some time violently dry heaving. i was running a low grade temp, (99.1) which was new, felt like i couldn't get enough air and my lungs are burning. (breathing has been exhausting all week. my coughing is less frequent now, drier and my voice sounds semi-normal finally). last night and this morning i've had sporadic chills and feeling quite lousy. in the midst of the drama last night i started crying so hard, i just lost it, out of nowhere. i am mentally and physically drained and i think it just hit me. i don't think i've ever felt so sick that it made me cry. (at least not since i was a kid, lol).
i am going back to the doctor this afternoon and hopefully he'll have some good news, or an idea on how to make me feel better. i have been worried about work, i've missed a few days with this, but the way i feel there's no way i'd be able to function. i have zero energy.
i'm sorry for the whining......i guess i felt i needed to vent.thanks so much for listening. maybe someone out there has had a similar illness recently and can give me hope that this will actually end, and soon. *ugh*

I'm so sorry to hear about how sick you are. I can almost feel your pain through your posting. Very descriptive. Is this the flu? Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much for your well wishes.
I know my post was a bit descriptive...aside from just being tired of feeling this way and needing to spout off, I think I was hoping someone would recognize the chain of events/symptoms and clue me in a little.
I've had ear infections in the past and I've had bronchitis a million times. I've never felt like this. Usually a Z-Pack makes me feel better within a day or two.
I guess I'm a little concerned that this may have progressed into something more than bronchitis...like pneumonia. It seems like a whole new pack of symptoms came on last night, just when I thought I was on the upswing.
Thanks again for your kind words and the balloons

I hope you will start feeling better soon. When I had bronchitis I thought I was going to die. The non-stop coughing made me feel so mentally and physically exhausted. Best of luck to you. :Melody:

This bug is ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Over from what I hear. I am sorry you feel so awful. Bless your heart, you are in the same boat as a lot of people around me. I keep praying all my vitamins, zinc, handwashing and getting good sleep/rest are helping us.....lord knows this is a bad bug indeed. HUGS.

Go ahead and whine all you want...........this flu bug is one of the worst I personally have ever had, and I even ended up in the hospital for 3 days with myocarditis, which was secondary to the original infection. I had ALL the symptoms you've described, and more. Makes me wonder how I would've fared had I NOT gotten the flu shot last November!!

You should go back to the doctor. This illness does not go away very quickly, and even after the symptoms subside, it takes weeks to get one's energy back. Take it easy, rest as much as you can, and try not to get stressed over missing work.........I'm sure they'd rather you NOT come in feeling like something the cat dragged in and then passing it on to staff or patients!

this was me 2 weeks ago except my fever on high doese of ibuprofen was still 103.6! You lay on that couch and rest as much as possible because 2 weeks later my energy is still not back to normal! Also the zpack helped me within 2 days as well but i also had steroids an albuterol inhaler and so vicodin laced cough syrup. You need something to help you stop coughing so you can get real rest. I am so sorry, try to drink your fluids and get some sleep.

i have heard that the flu that is going around has mutated since the flu shots were devised..so there is a lot of people even those with the shots are going to be very sick
we have some sick people at the ltc where i work...old or with hiv who would be hit hard if it is as bad as some areas have had
so far we have had a few workers and their families sick but no residents...
i have not been sick, knock on wood...two years ago i had pleursy and last year i had a rotar virus....i could write a book about how i felt both times

Rachel sorry you are feeling so bad. I agree you should go back to the doctor, you should be feeling some better by now what with the meds. Feel better soon, and come back and vent as much as you want to. Let us know how you are doing.

    Hugs

Ditto! Y'all hear me whine and moan last week. Bleh! By Friday, I wished someone would shoot me and put me out of my misery!

    Gah!

Drink up on fluids, stay warm, have vitamins and the ibuprofen... and watch TV and some DVDs

    Most importantly, rest and sleep!

Rachel I'm sorry you feel so horrible. I just pray this flu stays out of my house.

What did the doctor say this afternoon?

you all are so awesome.......thanks to every one of you for your kind, uplifting words, i really appreciate each of you taking the time to wish me well {{{hugs}}} all around...what an awesome place this is.

the doctor stopped the z-pack and started me on levaquin, added an inhaler and a liquid cough med with codiene. he also did a nasal swab to rule out the flu. (it's not the flu according to the swab). he mentioned thinking it may be viral but mentioned wanting to avoid the development of pneumonia from the bronchitis, hence the levaquin. my lung sounds don't sound like pneumonia to him....but i walked out of there feeling as though i should have requested a cxr for my own peace of mind. the way my lungs feel, i'd be shocked if they weren't loaded.

i don't know how long to wait before calling the doctor again. i'm afraid to let things go too long without major improvement, you know?

i'm going to go lay down now.......
    thanks again, everyone.
