Fed Up with internet service!

  1. I have had it with my internet service. too many problems lately. Difficulty getting on, booted off, too many pop-ups, etc. What service do you use, and are you happy with it? Need some input since I want to change providers. Thanks in advance.

Why does this not surprise me?

I like teleport/earthlink/one main/mind spring (or what ever they are called now. You can find them by going to www.teleport.com

    Yup. I figured as much.

I loved my AOL. No matter what anyone ever says about it, it was made to be very easy to use. But, all of the other things you said about it are true too. I got sick of being kicked off all the time, and things were limited. I can see that now that my husband has pried my death grip hands away from it.

We went to cable. I could never use anything else. But I pay about $45 a month for it.

Ask around where you're at. There are lots of little local internet providers that are half the cost of AOL, with twice the service. But it depends on where you are. Most run between $12 and $20 per month.

The hardest thing for me to get used to was my email program, browser, and IM program being 3 seperate things.

    Happy hunting!

Go to surfbest.net and see if they have a local number in your area. I dumped AOL a couple of years ago for all of the above reasons and I have been very happy with Surfbest. It is 12.50 a month for unlimited time. Only ever had a couple of problems which were legit problems due to weather or whatever. Dump AOL. They aren't worth the aggravation!

I have DSL through Verizon which is a local company and only available in some eastern states.
However I highly recommend DSL or cable. It is pricey but if you or your kids spend a lot of time on the net, and you also like to use your phone, it's well worth the cost.
Look on the net for providers in your area.

Everybody talks about spam, I can live with spam. It is the pop up ads that I hate. They make my computer crash. The analogy I make is a person carrying a sign saying "eat at Joes" that blocks my door when I try to leave my house. The ones not legal so why should the other be legal.

yep, i'm ready to give up aol too, have used it for years, but getting bumped off a lot. they do not like you to give them up and will offer a month free, etc. i pay 23.90 a month, geez.

we have a local service that i'm going to it's 95.00 a year and very reliable.

we can't use cable because we are in the boonies, no access, but we do have dish network.

    good luck with your decision.

We went to cable modem as ell, but it was more cost efficient for us to do so......we have 2 computers so we were paying for 2 phone lines.....$55.00 a month and 2 internet providers at $23.00 a month each so it was $101 a month for our stuff.....we networked the computers and bought a cable modem for $69.00, but got 2 free months of access with the modem. We got rid of the 2 ISP's and the phone(since we have cricket phones) and now only pay 45 for internet when it was 101 and it is so much faster!!!!

Robin, so when you paid more your service was faster? We have 2 phone lines too, had to. Did you have Cable access? or just bought a cable modem? I'm not too familiar with the cable thing, thanks.

Heck, forget all of those pricey services...waste of money! I use a service called Localnet.com. If you're in their dialing area, it's unlimited acess for $9.95 a month. Why pay extra for internet if you don't have to?????
Used to have AOl...what's with the question, "Do you want to stay online?" I'd be typing away with a long post, click "yes" to stay online and it would boot me off anyway. Have to start all over again...really ticked me off and have to start all over again. Bye, bye to them!
