  1. ok... a question... which fishes do you guys use?
My family is from Palermo... (amongst the rest of the world)
We use Whiting, Lobster, Calamari, Shrimp, Scallops, Clams, Muscles...

We dont like the baccala, or how it stinks up the house...(non-traditional traditionalists)

anyway-- so--- what do you guys use?

Walleye is the Minnesota favorite, but my kids, hubby and I also love clams, oysters, shrimp, lobster, calimari, mussels: almost any shell fish there is (and Minnesota isn't by the ocean-- drat!)

Okay, I thought the question was what type of fish we liked. What is the feast of seven fishes and who celebrates it?

I would also like to know about the feast... Never heard of it!

However, my favorite fish is parrot fish, followed by salmon, tuna steaks and just about anything that comes from the sea! (I'm not fond of mussles and oysters, tho...)

It is tradition that the Sicilians (and Italians) have a 7 fish dinner on Christmas Eve. Some think that it is perhaps one representing each day of the week, but most traditions come from the observance of the Cena della Vigilia, the wait for the miraculous birth of Christ in which early Christians Catholics fasted on Christmas Eve until after receiving communion at Midnight Mass.

Baccala , Calamari, Shrimp ,Clams,Crab, Whitefish flounder, oysters (i do'nt like the Baccala, either!)

Our family looks forward to this meal every Christmas Eve. We have baccala, calamari, shrimp, smelts, whiting, scallops, and some sort of tuna dish for the children.
