Favorite Thai Food

  1. My favorite is a dish made from bitter gourd (resembles a cucumber) and shrimp. Do not know what the name of it is, just buy it on the street from this one vendor whenever she has it. Also homemade coconut ice cream, when I cheat on Sundays at brunch time.
Grilled chicken that has been marinated in coconut milk with spices.

    What are some of yours?

Tom Kar Khai, the coconut milk soup! Medium-spicy, yum!

Local restaurant makes a "Drunken Noodle," with wide rice noodles, tomatoes, onions, fresh basil, black beans, with some brown sauce - salty and a little spicy.

    Yellow curry (potatoes, carrots, onions).

A slightly spicy chicken/cucumber salad, with lime.

I would have to say Pad Thai (sp?), and all the curries, esp. red curry. When I lived there a vendor on the street sold the best meatball soup that I gobbled up. Don't want to think about what the meat was probably water buffalo.

    Tweety,
Was waiting to hear what you had to say...............fabulous noodle soup all over, during the day it is usually with sliced pork (Chinese style) or some type of fish balls. The evening is when most of the chicken comes out, then the vendors primarily use sliced chicken in the soup. There is still a big choice of noodles, even ravioli style are available. Plus all of the fresh greens and bean sprouts. A whole meal in itself for about $0.50.

(never see them use water buffalo meat)

I used to go to a Thai restaurant that had a dish called Pad Woon Sen w/vegetables, or something like that. Unfortunately, they went out of business. When I asked another local Thai restaurant to make it for me, they had no idea what I was talking about. Maybe I got the name wrong after all.

Other than that I love the fresh, uncooked spring rolls with peanut sauce.

It's all good though. Thai food is yummy!

Pad-Thai (or Pud-Thai) depending on where you go.

    Rice noodles with peanut sauce.

Definitely have the name wrong, but then that could have been a dish
that that particular restaurant made and named. Have never seen anything with a name like that over here.

When I was a 14 year old visiting Thailand, I was very weirded out by the cuisine (I'm ashamed to admit). I specifically recall ordering spaghetti at a restaurant :imbar . Now I can't get enough of it. I live in a city that is Thai food Mad and has at least 10 Thai places (in a city of 600 000). I love it.
