Gone With The Wind.....overall the best because from all standpoints: direction, costumes, acting, set, and music I love it. It's a bit cheesy when you watch it from today's perspective. And Scarlet said "Oh Ashley..." a bit too much.

I agree An Officer and a Gentleman is a good flick. Then again any movie with Richard Gere would rank for me.

Wow! There are so many more movies that I like rather than dislike!
Ok anything by merchant ivory and my all time favorite has to be.... The French Lieutenants WOMAN! Just that part where Meryl Streep walks out on that thing, (what was that thing that just sort of was raised and went into the ocean) and the wind is blowing and the man is calling for her, afraid she'll be swept away, and you can see it in her face as she turns around with that black hooded cape on that she doesn't care if she is swept away. Her heart is broken and so is her reputation... because she is the French Lieutenants WHOR3!
Okay I actually fast forward through most of the movie til I get to that part then turn it off... LOL
Anybody else see it or know of the part!

I guess I am a redneck at heart...but I have always loved Urban Cowboy! I think the soundtrack just makes me reminisce.

Although it is hard to beat An Officer and a Gentleman

Gone With the Wind. Even though the acting is over-wrought and the attitudes sooooo politically incorrect by modern standards, it's still my favorite movie of all time. I've seen it probably a hundred times since I first fell in love with the book as a young girl, and then saw the film version when I was 16. I even named one of my daughters after Melanie, whom I've always considered the movie's real protagonist.

Of course, I don't agree with the way blacks were treated in the story, but then I don't agree with the way they were treated at that time in our history, or even at the time the movie was made.
But if you take it for what it is--which is a really good love story set in one of the most turbulent eras in our nation's past--it's a classic!

. . . . but one that's towards the top of the list is "Apocolypse Now" (sp?) Just a well made movie with a soundtrack that fits the movie like a glove. Appreciate it's exploration into the various depth's of man's "dark side". . . .

    Cheers
