Explain It To Me, Please!!!

  1. Could someone please explain to me why we need to get into a war with Saddam Hussein (however you spell it)? I understand he has weapons of destruction but so does almost every country on this planet. Is he threatening us directly? Have I missed something? I understand he supplied money and arms to terrorists, probably still does. So have a lot of other countries. If I'm not mistaken, we got into the Gulf War because of his threat to the Saudi's. The Saudi's do not feel threatened and have made it clear they do not agree with a war with Iraq. So what the heck is President Bush talking about???

I don't mean any disrespect, I am truly looking for an answer here!

with a man like saddam hussein, we had better stay on guard. isn't this the same man who will kill his own family for power and this was one reason the war (gulf war) ignitied because of his zeal to take over kauwit as it should (saddam thought) be part of iraq again and about the oil in kauwit too?

i have not kept up lately with the whys of your purposed questions, but if we (usa) have any inclination of saddam and his possible harm to "us, or taking over the usa, we are better off being prepared than sorry.

Because it makes better PR. Sure I believe that he supports terrorism, so do the Syrians, Lybians, Palestinians, and Saudi Arabians among others. But let's face it, we couldn't get away with threatenning those other countries like we can Iraq. He's such an evil dictator whose done so many stupid bad things in the past that he's very safe to threaten. Too bad for the poorer citizens of the country.

Because Bush knows he is a one-term president ...just like dear old dad. And he's doing it for dad.... emotionally he is a child...seeking dads' approval. He will get lotsa praise from dad for the deed. Meanwhile, American men will suffer, bleed and die....

We do not have a single ally in favor of the attack.
And Colin Powell and many bigwigs on Capitol Hill said they are against it. It's Cowboy George. He is making us voters look like fools for electing him.

Todays' newspapers say even the Republican senators and representatives are telling him "It's not necessary AT THIS TIME". "" Last Chance Bush"" has 24 months to do the deed, and he said last spring he wanted to attack this September.

That's those alcohol shrunken brain cells at work.

In my humble opinion, it's time to revive the 60's chant:

    ''HELL NO !! WE WON'T GO !!!

I just get the feeling that we're going into another thing like Vietnam where the purpose is totally lost, never clear, and the action wouldn't change the outcome.

I personally think such a move would be a BIG mistake. Sadam is evil, that is true; he has weapons of mass destruction, this is also true. He is probably insane. But, the window of opportunity has passed to "get" him--that window we had at the end of the Gulf War. We can't go back in time now. If we invade Iraq now, it will be to our great loss and we run the very real risk of igniting passionate anti-American sentiment throughout ALL of the Arab/Islamic world. We run the risk of turning Islamic moderates into frenzied Al-Queda-type radicals.

Being that I am the wife of a soldier, and a mother of soldiers, and an auntie to soldiers......I am not allowed to comment much here about anything, but I will say this: America need NOT fear any country EXCEPT China. If China aint moving towards us, no one will. Yes..they may stir up havoc, bomb something, but when
China acts......THEN....we need to be on our toes. Keep a watch on the news from China, and how their leader responds....or not....to Saddam Hussein. I digress.....zipping my lips eternally now.

When our guys were in Saudi in 1990-91, they were so close to Saddam they could smell him.....yet the LAST President we had forbade them to take him down. WHO was our last President, folks??? While Clinton was in the oval office making whoopie face with somebody's emotionally disturbed daughter who was young enough to be his own daughter's playmate.....he was trying to function on very little MATURITY AND WISDOM for the international front of this country, so we can't blame Bush for having once dabbled in the sauce, now can we! Bush didn't start the mess in Saudi, but I have no doubt that he will try his darndest to "clean up the Clinton mess" that was left when he took office.... I rest my personal case.

i'm :uhoh21: afraid that you're mistaken; daddy bush was in office still during operation desert storm & it was his administration that dropped that ball & not clinton's. do you remember that president clinton didn't take office until january of 1992??? and that president bush took all of the credit for what was hailed then as a sucessful mission?? forgive me, but when president clinton was being "serviced" in office, that so called war was done & over with. you have valid reasons for not liking clinton as others have but i have valid reasons for liking him too; however, daddy bush's administration was responsible for taking saddam down... sorry.

no matter what anyone says about our "last president", at least our economy was excellent while he was in office, it may've taken all eight years to straigten-out the mess that the republicans left behind, but he did suceed with that...now just look at the economy now !!! and you know who we have to blame for that...the supreme court judges, florida's f'ing ballot form fiasco, & president george w. bush !!!

i think if the us is forced to take saddam out for numerous reasons,. it can be done, he is just a small element in the world of terrorism. :stone

One thing this war talk with Iraq is doing is keeping the international price of oil artifically high (known as a war premium). With this sluggish economy world wide oil prices should be much less.Who has the most ties to the oil industry for multi generations?
There are other ways to deal with Saddam other then an all out invasion and a house to house urban battle that neutralizes our best weapons technology and maximizes Iraq's.

Cheerfuldoer, why China? Who has China committed aggression against? They have fought off vicious and constant threats to their country for the past two hundred years. The Japanese have been a constant cruel and vicious attacker.

Last December I was visiting with a patient. We were discussing the events after 9-11. He said , "You know the ones we REALLY have to watch , don't you?" I replied, "No, who?" "The Chinese, it says so in the Bible, it predicts that at the end of time, the yellow race will rule the world." I've heard that old worn out phrase so many times, ...I just nodded and went on about my business without a comment. This man, and so many other Bible thumpers truly believe this. Some old Jew wrote a letter 2000 years ago to beware of the Mongols across the mountains 2000 miles away, and it gets translated into 2001 as a Chinese threat.

I hope this isn't your source of why we need to fear the Chinese. The U.S. is doing all we can to improve the Chinese economy, via the World Trade Organization,...which China joined in 2000-2001. Why? To help our economy. Our markets are saturated. There's a billion chinese over there to sell cars, computers, insurance, stocks, hamburgers, and everything else to. But, the biggie......They don't have the money to buy anything. Hence, we are building them up, importing their products....the next generation will be ready for purchasing American music, cars, golf carts, exercise and sports gear, AOL and al., ....

Male Chinese laborers built this country. Thousands were brought here in the 1800's as slaves, to build railroads, roads, and bridges all across the West. Not many survived.

We were never taught this in history, in school. But it is documented and available on the net.

In the real world, the North Koreans are a threat.

In today's news is info about how we were allies with Iraq and Saddam Hussein in the 70's and 80's. He was our man in those years. We gave him lotsa big bucks and supported his war against Iran. Didn't we encourage and aid him in overthrowing those in power before him? Now, OUR man is Mr Evil.

I don't want my sons to die trying to "change the Iraqi regime." Our president can't even call his actions what they are....he refers to it as a "regime change." "Oh, we're just going over there for a "regime change." Does that really make it more palatable to send your sons and grandsons to Iraq?

Did Iraq attack us last September?
