Excuse me, I'm not an idiot...

  1. a flag lady (road construction flag woman) called me an "idiot" today..lol.. she was not directing traffic and i waited for her to motion me to go on, when she finally did i waved to her like "thanks" and i had my window open a little and she said

    "idiot" lol..

i thought to myself.. well, i could stop and yell... "your the idiot for standing there with a flag".. but then i thought that wouldn't be very nice..lol.. so i just drove on.

i've never been called an "idiot" and i kinda feel like reporting her for poor customer service. however i don't know her name and she looked kinda "rough" so maybe she would come after me or something.

i'm so passive sometimes, what would you all have done?

ok, i would have stopped the car, gotten out, and asked her what i did that caused her to think i was an idiot... because from my perspective, she's the one standing in the road with a flag.

but then, i'm pretty assertive in situations like this.

and i have stopped my car, gotten out, and spoken to people in similar situations. i have gotten to the point where i refuse to take any crap from people i don't know.... now if only i could transfer that over to the people i care about....

yeah, yeah, i know its dangerous and i'm going to get shot.

Don't you feel that half the time they are idiots, looking at you like we can read their minds. And one doing the work with 6 standing around??

MsPurp, you know I was just thinking that I might drive thru that same area tomorrow and ask who the supervisor for the "crew" is and report her.

She's probably making 20.00 bucks an hour to stand there and treat people like that and she is a State Employee I believe.. UGH.

Thanks for replying. I guess I just didn't want to get into a Cat Fight..lol.. although I wasn't holding up any traffic, there was no one behind me on the road !

Yes, especially the State employees, they look like they are on coffee break when I see them. :chuckle

You know what, Marie? She probably makes more than that, because anyone on a street crew gets 'hazard pay' because, well, some schmuck could run them over.

Its just rude. And I'm not going to generalize (any more) and say that someone who works that kind of job is less intelligent than anyone in any other job, but its just discourteous, and that really gets under my skin.

Its like a nurse taking care of a patient with PID, walking past her room with the DOOR OPEN, and saying, "whore". Anyone who treats someone with that much disrespect should certainly hear about it.

Just my .02. I'm sure lots of other people will assure you that you did the right thing by not commenting on it, causing a scene, getting yourself in trouble, yada yada yada.

I see what you mean MsPurp, but why didn't I stop and put her in her place? Maybe I just didn't want to react to it, yah, she probably does make more than 20.00 and I would hate that kind of work but she shouldn't take it out on us passerbyer's. Maybe she felt that was "her territory".. or something.

Or maybe she's just a negative person.

Or maybe she was talking about one of her coworkers and not about you.

    Who knows?

Being the nice person that I am, I would have driven by her slowly and said, "Honey, I'm not as idiotic as you look!" and flipped her the bird and went on my merry way... with a smile...
The nerve! Can you imagine saying that to one of our patients/residents??? Sometimes...YESSSS!

Yah, it was about 90 degrees at that time, she was probably overheated and wanted to go home.. all kinds of reasons.
