A former Iraqi intelligence officer has disclosed new information about Saddam Hussein's ties to the al-Qaida-related terrorist group Ansar al Islam.

The Iraqi intelligence agent, who currently is in the Al Suleimaniya prison, told interrogators he served as coordinator between the Iraqi Special Security Department and the hardline Kurdish fundamentalist groups, including Ansar al Islam.

Real nice website there, mkue. The entire home page is littered with anti-gay rhetoric. If that's where you get your "fair and balanced" news it explains a whole lot

I searched the major news search engines (google, bbc, reuters, yahoo, etc.) and the only place this claim came up was on that worldnetdaily website. Absolutely ZERO credibility in my book. Just to be fair, I'll keep looking to see if the story has any merit.

A lot of the "anti-Bush rhetoric" is also not coming from "fair and balanced" sources. Welcome to the world of politics.

Why aren't there any dates or specifics? Sounds a little fishy. I will wait until this is actually investigated. As it stands, it just says a prisonner claims.... and we all know they never lie

    I saw a headline once
"HOUSEWIFE DRILLS AND FILLS HER OWN TEETH'

    Maybe true!
Sometimes the most farfetched stories turn out to be true.

I'm well aware of the "world of politics," especially on this forum. It's no secret that I lean pretty far to the left, but I would think twice before starting a thread based on a lone article from a wacked-out website with little or no credibility. Actually, I don't frequent such websites and I get my news and editorials from liberal rags like The New York Times and my local AP newspaper.

I like to think outside the "box" and out of curiosity wonder if there may be more to this story, like you Fergus, I will wait to see if there is an investigation.

I do think this type of reporting is a bit irresponsible. It's like the articles about the Iraqi secret agent who met with one of the 9/11 highjackers or that we "may have" found WMD in Iraq. They print those articles, and then find out it never happened, but people who aren't well informed still think it's true.

Personally, I would be thrilled if we found a big vat of anthrax and pictures of SH and OBL hugging. Then this whole invasion would make perfect sense for everyone. Unfortunately, since those other stories fooled me I have learned to be a bit more skeptical.

Personally I find THIS article equally as interesting. The source is CNN which most of you should not have a problem with.

I wonder why more wasn't made of this in the media?? Seems significant to me.

I don't know about your news, but they did make a big deal about it here. This and the foiled plots in Britain were both front page news.

Good try, mkue! I kind of liked my left-sided "what if?" article better.

Interesting article BeachNurse, and I wonder too why this isn't being reported more in the US. We should be aware of terrorist activities around the world. IMO.
