Everquest

  1. AVOID EVERQUEST AT ALL COSTS!!!!! It is as addicting as crack, or at the very least as addicting as Allnurses.com. I was off work the last 3 weeks due to having my achillies tendon put back together (another story ) and my nephew boughht me Everquest to try out. I played it for the whole 3 weeks....a game that is esy to get addicted to. Now I hate going to work...I would rather stay home and play the game...(well not quite that bad, but I do hate going to work....always have hated going to work).

Anyone know of any 12 step programs for Everquest?..........

What server Dave. My hubby is a 29 warrior looking for group.

Dave, I feel for you. My husband avoided EQ for that reason. Just simply stop playing it. NOW. Try playing another game that provides the same fun but is not as cyclical as EQ.

My husband and his buddies play Delta Force 2; my hubby hosts it on his server and it's a closed game; only him and his friends play and it's a great time. They play q Tuesday nights and it sets expectations for everyone (including the wives)

Dave, just don't play the damn game anymore. There is no 12 Step program - but it will lead to diaster if you don't stop. Frickin uninstall it if you have to.

Dave - I was just joking with my first reply. My EQ playing husband said maybe you'd get a laugh.
Personally - I wonder how your EQ playing is affecting your life. I know you mentioned about not wanting to go to work, but could there be other reasons for that? It's really hard to offer any input (if that's what you are looking for) without more info.
I only know how EQ is affecting my family. Both my husband and 13 yr old son are way into it. We are a 2 computer family.
My husband and I have only been married for 6 months, and at first I started to feel real uncomfortable with the amount of time hubby spent playing. We have had numerous discussions about it. I even went online and checked out the EQ Widows group. But was disappointed with that whole set up. Finally realized that everyone's situation is unique, and that my family and I will strive for whatever compromises work best for us. Thank God I have such a wonderful husband who (although still denies it's an addiction) is willing to listen to me and hear what my needs within our family are.
And yes, I'll admit - I spend a lot of time in allnurses, with the excuse that it gives me something to do while he's over on his computer playing EQ. But at least - in allnurses, I'm getting to know people who help me to continue to grow in my profession, as well as help me to gain insight and continue to grow as a human being. I'm not into EQ, so I don't know if it affords any perks such as that, or not.
Hear to listen if you need us Dave.

QuakeIII widow here. Boy does it suck. Hubby goes through stages. He's either good about it and is somewhat attentive to his family requirements, or it is the total opposite. We're at an opposite right now. He's spent the last 4 days on the computer. Walks in the door from work, and to the computer he goes. It gets old, and resentments rise...

I don't have a problem with him playing, but it's all the time. I like what Suzy said about setting a time that he plays, sets expectations. I never know. This may sound really corny and silly, but I honestly feel that Quake, or computer gaming in general, will be the ultimate end to my marriage.

I don't know what your exact situation is, just wanted you to see the other side.

i have absolutely no clue, what any of these games are?

i have only a few games on here. same, pinball something? (it came with the computer), and one game i have played for like 7 years, that i have had on every computer......playmaker football. the graphics are not great or anything. however, you can make your own team, put the abilities at the positions you want and design all your own plays.......which makes it more intresting i think? i play it about 2 hours a week max, sometimes way less than that.

Asheron's Call. That's my addiction. It's similar to Everquest. My husband has an account, I have an account, and we have another account that we share. That's $30/month for the three accounts. It's another MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role-playing game). Our daughters dabble in it.

Me: Gaea Niban, Level 55, Dagger Chick
    Hubby: Tombo-san, Level 60, Blademaster
various other characters in various stages of development!

    lmao! :chuckle

rick if you really wanted you could probably download a pirated version of these games, but i would avoid it. i used to like quake myself, and delta force, however they are not ongoing like everquest - which is part of the addiction.
personally i like my sega - earthworm jim.

so ya hear that dave?? rick has no idea what these games are. meaning that the eq widows will be after him in no time - including your wife if you keep on playing! :d

We call it Evercrack at my house. Husband and 17 year old are totally addicted. And both are 'to sick' to go to school/work about 2 days per month, the usual complaint is diarrhea. Strangely it is always on the same days and no one else in the house comes down with it. It used to bother me but we have learned to compromise. Both of the guys have learned there are penalties for becoming to involved in the game:

    Dinner is ready:
translation: I feeding the leftovers to the dogs when I am done eatting and you can go hungry.

    Get me your laundry:
translation: I do 2 loads of laundry a day, if your stuffs not in it then you get to wear dirty socks.

    I'm going to the store:
translation for husband: drive me or I will max out the credit cards and you get no sex.

There are groceries in the car:
translation for son: go carry them in or starve.
translation for husband: you didn't drive me, you get no sex.

    I'm going to bed:
translation for son: go to bed.
translation for husband: if you are not there in 10 minutes you get no sex.

The dogs need food and water:
translation for son: you are not earning your allowance.
translation for husband: you get no sex.

    The yard is a mess:
translation for son: you are not earning your allowance.
translation for husband: you get no sex.

    It is 3 am:
translation for son: why are you up?
translation for husband: if you touch me you will die, you get no sex.

I liked DF2, it was like watching a movie. We have 2 computers and the closest I come to using them is backing up data across the network. Sadly, one of them was my annaversary present las August. I bought a laptop on one of my "I'm going to the store" announcements.

The good news is neither of them is out causing trouble, smoking dope, spending money or chasing women. But I have noticed they are both rather pale and their hygeine is suffering.

And I am sure using alot of batteries.:imbar
