emotional eating???

  1. I just started reading the book by Bob Greene "Get with the Program" ( as seen on Oprah) and I was wondering if any of you have read/followed the program? If so, what were your results like? Please share...

    My story, I have some winter weight to shed and I'm convinced that I eat for reasons other than hunger ... so I'm on a mission to halt the yo-yo...

    I've never followed that diet, but can relate to the eating other than hunger. I sometimes eat from stress, at work I'll run to the candy machine or to get a bag of chips. Then stop at the store on the way home for ice cream.

    I'm also self-sabatoge. This goes way back to self-esteem issues. But since I don't drink or do drugs, I'll overeat as a form of self-hatred. (Don't worry I've had therapy and am better, but still do it. LOL)

    Good luck loosing the weight.

    I read the book and I thought it was okay. I usually don't eat when I get stressed whether from not taking the time or being to upset.

    When I am stressed I tend to eat the WRONG foods...too much chocolate, chips, etc. Haven't read the book.

    I emotionally eat all the time. I've gained a lot of weight the last 2 years while in nursing school. I'm hoping to get it all off but even though I realize it when I'm doing it, I can't stop. At the time I don't want to either. Its later on, afterwards that I get mad at myself. I have never had a problem with my weight before until now.

    I comfort eat, and tend to trawl especially when I am stressed, or worried about work!
    I have tried dieting but everytime i start loosing weight, along comes another assignment, and then I am back to eating chocolate

    I haven't read the book..but have seen shows on Oprah r/t this..and I'm guilty of eating to fill whatever voids I have in my life/stresses..and I agree that overeating isn't at ALL about food..it's about emotions.I'm still surfing the threads/sites about health and wellness to get ideas..I wish you luck in your quest for weight loss/happiness

    Yes, chocolate is my comfort food- esp. Hershey's dark chocolate! I have learned to do some other things to help me destress like talking a long time with someone who is willing to listen, writing it out, taking a long walk or run, and it does help. But I also tend to snack a lot when I am studying late and that is a problem! Good luck to all of you in your weight loss quest but remember to LOVE YOURSELF the way you are and not try to fit the body image of the mass media!! (I went to a program about eating disorders this evening that they held on campus and it has really got me thinking).

    I think at least a 30lb weight gain in nursing school is a requirement isn't it? lol.
