I don't take a purse to work. I wear a fanny pack with small wallet (nursing & drivers licendse, credit card & cash), car keys, bandage scissirs, hemostats, and laminated cards with lab values, drip rates, and such.
Food I take in a grocery bag.

I do use a purse everywhere else.
I know nurses who come to work with a rolling suitcase!
I keep reference books unlocked on the unit. So far (>30 years) none have been stolen.

Kitchen sink.........that about sums it up!

Card folder, money pouch, baby wipes, lip gloss or chapstick, lotion, nail clippers and file, Tide on the go stick (mandatory for toddler moms!), small container of allergy pills and another of advil, insurance cards for the family, purse-sized copies of DPA papers, keys, cell phone, pen and small pad....I know there's more but I'm not sure what!

I usually carry just a hand-held with wrist loop cellphone/wallet. It has my debit card, my license, a few $$, my keys and my phone. Occasionally I have a pen stuck in there next to the phone, but that doesn't usually stay put.
When I go out in the evening, my small bag holds the above, and maybe a comb and lipstick. Who needs all that other stuff? lol........

now , karen , my point of view is a girl needs her stuff !

Between work and nursing school, my back pocket has become my purse and I usually carry my driver's license, debit card, school card and library card. And paper money if I ever have any

BUT, I did pull out the purse I carried around last summer and found a lipstick that I love and have been missing, some NCLEX study cards on a ring, lots of pens, my contacts--has it really been that long . . . I think I'll probably just toss them now, LOL, some money and a couple of my toddler's matchbox cars (good thing he has a short memory--just like his mom).

I have found since not carrying around a purse that I don't get stuck carrying all the things that everyone else doesn't want to carry
