E-zpass. Is it worth it?

  1. OK, who has e-zpass and do you think it's worth it? It sounds like a bunch of bull...oney to me. I have to figure this all out soon b/c no more tokens after Nov.30. I pay $8.00/month with just the tokens. E-zpass? $25 until I have to replenish the account. How long does $25 last anybody know? What pizzes me off is when I go to work at 10:45pm there are NO CARS and when I come home at 9:00am there are NO CARS either. So why do I need e-zpass???? Makes no sense to me!

    I love my EZ Pass.... I think it's great! Have been using it for way over a year now....... it's nice to have on the parkway..... and especially when I am driving into New York City... to visit my parents! I drove to Hershey this summer... cruised right through.... I Haven't had any problems with mine!

    My mom lives in Jersey and loves EZ pass. She says it's just so much better, just charge it to the credit or debit card every so often, no more buying tokens or digging for change. All she has to do is slow down when going through the toll booths, no stopping, no putting the window down on cold nights or hot days, and no throwing the change into the bucket and hoping it makes it.

    I just went to visit family in Jersey in Sept and I had forgotten what a pain those tolls can be!

    You can use a debit card? I don't have e-zpass yet, but am supposed to by the end of the month. I'm just confused on how you pay. I know one way is by a credit card which I don't own. Don't laugh! I do have a debit card. Do they go into your checking account and help themselves or do you send them a payment? I'm so confused. Please help. If I don't get this right, I can't go to work! I have to go thru the stupid thing everyday from Pennsy to Jersey...with no other cars! {{{sheesh}}}

    YEs you can use a debit card... I have come out right out of my checking accout.... you can set it up on line.......I have it set up so that they debit my checking account when I reach $10.00, the will fill up to $25.00.. ..... the minute I reach $10, again it debits and goes to $25.00

    I think that is the minimum you can put on $25.00

    And like I said I love it! have had no problems whats so ever!

    Not sure, but I think the debit card has to have a Visa logo, so it can be charged as a credit card, but still comes out of your account.

    The way my mom explained it was that she designated a set amount to be put on EZ pass, and before that amount is used up she gets notified via email. (She does her EZ pass charges online) So it's like pre-paying for your tolls.

    Since I don't actually use it myself, I'm not sure if that is all there is to it. If you don't get an answer here, I'll call my mom tomorrow and ask her.

    I was just thinking what a great scam that is for the state. It doesn't let the balance go down below $10, and multiply that by a few thousand people, and the interest they make must be really great. Let's see 20 000 people, say, averaging $15 balance, at 5% a year would be...$45 000 earned just in interest, for doing nothing.

    they don't pay you interest on the balance you have on your card do they?

    Do the tolls stop after the road is paid for or does it continue forever?
    Is there an alternate route one can take if you don't feel like paying the toll?
    I've never really understood toll roads.

    As I recall the NYS thruway was supposed to be short term...I lived there almost 40 years and they are still paying for it! Once a toll....always a toll.......I want to move back to Chinle.....miles and miles of ....air.......sigh.

    I think it is a big scam. The tolls were supposed to go for repairs to the roads and in my case the bridge. The tolls keep on going and going and going. I thought your taxes paid for the road repairs and all that construction???? I think this money is going towards something else, but haven't a clue as to what or who. At least for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. It's only a bridge and I understand they need repairs on occassion and even new ones built, but my God, they must generate millions and millions of dollars a year, so where is it all really going?
