    Morpheus...napster refugees are welcome!

I've also used Morpheus, but find it more troublesome than Limewire. I haven't been downloading much of anything lately.... out of CDs.

I used to use iMesh, but hubby uninstalled it because he said it was causing problems due to the spyware and such (funny how everything on my side of the computer worked fine).

Anyhoo, he just installed WinMX, which I am completely unimpressed with.

    Looking for new ones.

    I was unimpressed with WinMX.

The largest site is kazza, there is a kazza lite that I here doesn't come with a lot of other stuff like spyware. I have a program that removes spyware. I notice however that kaaza is a hog, it seems to use up a lot of energy if I leave it on and download for a long time. But it has EVERYTHING.

I have used Limewire and Bearshare and found them o.k. too.

    I seriously miss napster...sigh...

(Where is the flame that inevitably comes "You guys are stealing, ever think of PAYING for your music??)

My daughters now use kazaa, and I just started doing some messing with it. Question for goodguy and all: what is spyware and what are its uses?

I was reluctantly using Kazaa until the latest version. The latest version requires an ad-ware component that operates EVEN WHEN KAZAA IS OFF! Example: I'll be surfing the 'net, maybe reading good 'ol allnurses.com when a &^%$#@! pop-up jumps in my face!

Plus, from what I read, its one of the worst spy-ware components around. I couldn't delete the damn thing quick enough. Looking for a replacement, preferably one that still uses the Kazaa network.

Spy-ware is evil! It is software that gathers information from your computer then sends it to whomever the software tells it to. It may read your computer set-up, it may monitor what sites you visit, it may grab information out of cookies you have on your system (like the one that tells this site who you are). Some of the more malicious spy-ware may even monitor your individual keystrokes.

Grab a free software called "Ad-Aware" and run it... I think you'll be suprised at how much ad-ware and spy-ware is on your machine. And if you find one called "SaveNow", delete it immediately! See my previous post as to why... (incidentally, don't just delete it manually... let Ad-Aware do it, then re-run Ad-ware as sometimes it won't get everything on the first pass)

I'm using kazaa and not having any problems with it. And have been very impressed with the music I'm getting off it.

I just started downloading music a few days ago and I am using Kazaa-lite. It says that it does not have spyware or ad-ware, but you never really know for sure.

It seems to be great for beginners as it is very easy to use and everything that I have downloaded is of good quality. It does tend to take up a lot of space, but I don't run any other programs, including internet explorer, while downloading music.

I like Limewire, easy to use, and I've had the most luck finding what I want with it.
