Do you watch design shows?

  1. I have seen some really nice rooms on HGTV today. I used to really like Trading Spaces, until they started getting more and more outrageous more and more often. Straw wall coverings, sand on the floor, jet black walls and lemon yellow furniture? Nothankyou, Hildy. I never understood why, with a budget of $1000, the rooms always ended up looking tacky, either. For that amount of $, you can buy some beautiful paint, maybe a new piece of furniture or some nice fabrics for reupholstering, or some interesting artwork that make much more sense than sewing curtains out of old parachutes (these things really did happen on Trading Spaces!)

I love HGTV. Of course, that stuff is easy when you have your own crew of designers, painters, electricians, and carpenters.

Still, they show some awesome tips.

My favorite shows are Divine Design, Designing on a Dime, and Curb Appeal. I like others, but those are my favorites.

I watched Design on a Dime today. They redid a guest bedroom and it turned out lovely! You're right about how much easier it would be with a posse of people to help you, though. $1K goes a lot further when you're not paying for labor!

I don't watch a lot of HGTV....I am more a Food Network kind of girl...you know $40.00 a day and 30 minute meals are my favorites LOL

I like Food Network, too. Just ask any of my journal mates, I'm sure they've all noticed my preoccupation with food, lol!

I loved this program at the beginning of the season, shortly after Thanksgiving. I don't know if it was on Food TV or HGTV, but it was a Christmas cake decorating contest. It was really awesome. One of the cakes cracked and was out of the contest. The guy who won did an awesome Santa Claus Jack-in-the-Box. It was really amazing and I enjoyed watching it!

I saw that show! I like these competitions; recently, they did a gingerbread house contest that was interesting, too.

Those are my favorites too . . along with the one where they fix up your house in order to sell it. Can't remember the name right now.

    I love my HGTV!

"Sell This House!" I think- I like it too!

I also like the real estate shows - House Hunters, Double Agents, Designed to Sell, Sell This House! We bought our condo last year with the intention of only staying 2 years. I feel those shows are helping me decide what I really want in our next home and what I need to look out for. It's also helped me with my decorating here, so that when it comes time to sell, hopefully people will like our place.

Food Network is my other obsession! I never watched it until two things happened. First, we moved into the condo and I had a real kitchen to myself for the first time that wasn't my mom's. Second, I was taking care of this baby at work for a couple of months, and everyone kept saying her mom looked like Rachael Ray. I had no clue who they meant so I tuned in. Instant addiction!
