Do you read through all the threads and if so how does it affect you?

  1. I guess sometimes I just sort of click into the threads with the eye catching titles or the ones that look like they will be fun!

I got a few pm's recently that got me curious to read certain threads and then came in on other threads where everyone just sort of sounded like they knew something more than I did so I have spent literally hours recently reading certain threads and find myself wondering??????

Okay I don't know what I am wondering?

    Ambivalent... there's the word!

I think when "I" read too much it gets too stressful...
    It becomes really not fun....

At the present time my real world is stressful... Gotta have a break somewhere, right?

So what about the rest of you... Do you know what's going on or maybe ignorance is bliss...

I think I just need to go back to bed?

I read and post as much or as little as I wish. I also pick from titles that look like they might appeal to me. There is just toooo much to read everything. If I find myself getting anxious I go away for awhile.

I couldn't possibly read everything here. I post on 2 other internet BBs and read a third (but rarely post), and I don't read everything on those sites either. I tend to stick to the areas that interest me.

On this board, I regularly read General Nursing Discussion, Polls, Nursing Activism, War & Terrorism, and Off-Topic. I'll venture into other sections occasionally if I have a question or see an intriguing thread in the "new posts" search.

Even in an area that I frequent, I may go into a thread and see that it's going in a direction that doesn't interest me, or see that that it's turning into a giant flame-fest, and I'll make a mental note to bow out. Or I may see that I hold a minority opinion and entering the debate would entail my having to do some research and pull up some articles or cites in order to illustrate my point; and I just don't have the emotional energy--so I stay away.

Depends on my mood and what's going on in the world outside, too--some days I need some silliness; some days I want to talk about world events; some days I want to debate; some days, as the Brits say, I just can't be arsed about any of it.

I usually do Off-Topic and Active Threads....I'll look at the first page or two on each, and read the ones that look interesting. If I find myself getting mad at something someone said, I try to make it a point not to post there.

If it's a potential flame-throwing thread, I try hard to make sure that I have something different to say and can say it without adding fuel to the fire. is something that SO offends me, that I couldn't shut myself up if a herd of elephants tried to hold me back. In that case, I'd write only what I could say to the person face-to-face, lest I be accused of taking potshots behind someone's back. In most cases, I try to be prudent and I hold myself back, not the other way around.

And if it's a nice, happy, thought-provoking topic, so much the better--- I can let myself go and enjoy it.

Tell ya what...I read the threads that seem to be posted by someone needing a positive word of encouragement or caring. ALL OF THEM.......we all need that at times. And I will not lie..I LOVE A GOOD long as it's clean.....and I love jokes.

I don't read those that don't apply to me or where I can offer no useful info (like LTC issues or Case Mgt, I am clueless and useless there, leaving it up to those that know). some NAMES prompt me to read when I know who they are and that they always seem to start VEDDDY EEEEENTERESTING threads. Anyhow, there is not method to my madness. :-)

I pick & choose as time permits, & as my interest waxes & wanes.

I usually read threads that have an interesting title, or that are posted by someone who always has something interesting to say. If I have been away for a few days, I don't even attempt to go through everything. I go to Off-topic and General Nursing Discussion and just look for titles and authors that pique my interest.

pretty much what everyone else has said applies to me too....gueseppi, you also asked how does it affect you?...sometimes it stresses me out too...and l back off for a while. l certainly love a good debate and some healthy fire works, but, l will say l don't understand pple who attack other pple at a personal putting them down for their ideas, topics of choice(within reason), needs for reassurance and positive strokes. Dissenting views can be expressed w/o implying that others are inferior for feeling otherwise....that happens a lot around here lately.........LR

I have only dropped by once or twice in the last few days, which for me is a serious cut back...let me tell you! I used to try and skim each thread because the titles could be misleading. Now I drop in just to see how the ones I care about are faring, but avoid the negativity. On that note Nursegoodguy.....hope you are faring well and that the stress leaves you........feel free to PM or drop an email if you need to do so or not to if you need not.....Take care............
I read the threads that are of interest to me, from the day's active threads page. Sometimes a title can be deceiving, and I'll start reading and realize I'd rather stop, or sometimes I find a thread that I'm interested in that I must have skipped over before.

How does it affect me? It doesn't really. I come. I read. I post. While there are people here I care greatly for, and even correspond with outside of this bb, the board itself does not keep me up at night.

I usually like the off-topic threads. I deal with 'real' issues all day, it's nice to relax. Lately, it has been hard to stay focused here. It seems to me that so many people that I used to enjoy reading, now have some sort of bug up their wazoo? Or they don't post anymore. It's not as fun as it used to be. This place used to be the first place I came to when I came on the PC and the last at night. Now I find that I am somewhere else. It used to be light and fun. Now it is like a battleground. It's exhausting trying to read some of the silly crap while
still maintaining the integrity of the BB.

I feel this has been going on for about 2 months now. Does anybody else notice the changes? Can you pin-point who or what started all this bickering? Some times I too feel like not even showing up here anymore. No one would care anyway! It used to be great now it's like trying to hold on to a one-sided relationship.
