Do you pump gas with engine on?

  1. Once again I was at the gas station and realized that the person on the other side of the pump I was using was pumping gas with the engine running. Isn't that supposed to dangerous? How much danger is the person on the other side pump(namely me) in when this happens?

I do that sometimes, if it's really cold out. I'm more worried about the idiot smoking next to me at the pump!

I always turn off my engine.... when getting gas! Isn't like a law..... isn't there a big sign next to the station that said" You Must Turn Off Your Engine When Getting Gas"?

You are supposed to turn off the engine and the lights too. A spark can ignite the airborne gas fumes as well. No smoking either- very dangerous.

Sometimes I leave the engine on when pumping.
I just stick the nozzle in and give a squeeze and don't even give a thought that my banging pistons may cause an explosion.
The only thing on my mind is filling that tank!
When I'm done I'll even squirt a few more times until no more can be put in.
Then I'll put the nozzle away.
I "fill 'er up" about once a week.

    Nope. Can't do it.

I honestly don't think it's any more safe than starting your ignition when there could be gas vapors in the air. Same thing, same danger. Who-ha.
