Do you feel like you have to hurry even when you're not at work?

  1. I find that since I became a nurse I've changed in many ways... First of all I am more patient... but... I also feel like I have to hurry through everything outside of work!
Do you find yourself at a restaurant hurrying through your meal?
When you are at walmart and hear an overhead page do you ever think, "was that page for me?"

I have become the world's fastest eater. Even a nice restarant meal is practically inhaled.

I hear pagers go off and reflexively reach to my right-hand pocket where I hang my pager at work!!!

I also eat too quickly. I have to make a conscious effort to slow down when we're eating out somewhere, or just trying to enjoy dinner at home.

I also walk too fast. Nobody can keep up with me at the mall or grocery store. It's like a race!

My poor kid is always 5 paces behind me going "moooommm...... wait for meeeee......"

For a long time, I found myself doing the exact same thing! I finally made a point to learn to slow down with certain things, like eating! I think you get in that gear of fast pace and it is hard to learn to slow down! Age may have something to do with it, too!

I've thought about this often over the past, say 20. years. I'm not so sure that my hurrying is a result of becoming a nurse, but being a nurse certainly reinforces the tendency.

Right now, I'm feeling that I have to get off the computer because I have errands to run, and I promised a friend that I would do something for him this morning, and I saw a piccture of a rare dog on a shelter website and feel like I have to go rescue the dog, and... well.. you get the picture.

    Whew!!

It never ends. I'm always thinking five tasks ahead of what I'm doing, and have a lot of trouble just relaxing. The best sleep I've gotten in the past two years was when I was on a six hour flight and had no choice but to stay in the present!

I catch myself dialing "9" before making phone calls at home, or answering the home phone with "Hello, this is ___, how may I help you?"

Another one I do a lot: write my initial, last name, and RN when signing for a credit transfer or a check. :imbar: oooops.

LMAO! I thinks it's so hard to dial a phone number anymore! I have to stop and think about where I am and how I get an outside line, and the fact that we have to use the area code for even local calls anymore here...... TOO MANY NUMBERS!

And the "RN" after your name thing! It's OK if I sign my entire name, but if I just sign my first initail, and then my last name, as I always due at work, it's always followed by RN. As if my son's teacher really cares about that!
